Trail Report/Photo Section/GPS CoordinatesBeen offroad with your FJ? Tell us about it and post up any photos or GPS coordinates so others can possibly follow in your footsteps!
After seeing PokerDawg's screen shot of his Garmin track, I thought I would provide a more detailed map(s) of our run. The maps are from TOPO!, Outdoor Recreation Mapping Software from National Geographic. These are scans of all the USGS Topographical maps in the USA. They are sold by state for $100.00 each. That might sound expensive, but try to buy all the maps for California for that amount, you can't do it.
I got the waypoint coordinates from the book "Backcountry Adventures, Southern California" edition by Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson.
I hand loaded the coordinates into TOPO to get what you see. The waypoints were then uploaded(downloaded? never can figure those terms out) to the MapSource map in my Garmin. I wish the actual TOPO map would load but it doesn't.
Anyway - the following 11 shots show the complete route with waypoints. They start where we started-on the east end of the Road.
Following the map shots is a list of the waypoints with coordinates.
Let me know if this of any interest to any of you. Thanks, Gary
I am not going to caption the maps so here goes:
Now for the 3 map content pages:
OK that should do it. Feed back?

Now if this isn't the most thorough trail report....then I don't know what is. Thanks for putting this info together. I never thought GPS info could mean so much. It's a great way to reflect on our adventure.
Maybe Uphill can review the data and make the Feb run with even more twists.

Motionbased.com freaking rocks! You can upload your GPS data and they will generate charts and stats for you.
Here is about an hour of trail right after leaving base camp and escaping the winds in the morning from 08:12 to 09:16. When I zoomed into the map, the area looked like when we stopped for the winch demo. Was that at 9:16? Yup, according to the timestamp on the photos, it was
It shows I hit over 60mph but that has to be a GPS malfunction
