What tire type/size do you have and what lift type/size do you have? I really like the way your FJ sits and looks. Not to mention my jealousy for your trip
I'm running Goodyear MT/R 285/75/R16 with an OME 3" lift. So far the MT/Rs have been a little aggressive for the trek. Right now I'm wishing I had gone BFG All-Terrain T/A, with better mileage...

Whups, looks like I just left the country of Mexico and entered the Autonomous Zapatista territory!

Supposedly the rules of Mexico do not apply here.

Re: Across the Americas in a FJC

Moving further into supposedly rebel territory, our host advised us to take the "armed convoy". Since the convoy left at 6:00AM, WAAAY to early for our taste we left at a more reasonable hour, unarmed...

At Bonampak we were the only independent travellers, but the place was teeming with tour groups!

On the way back we were hoping to see this armed convoy, but never encountered it. Either things are now quiet enough to not require it or they don't travel on holidays...

Re: Across the Americas in a FJC

This is just crazy to me to think you can just get in your FJC and go... Anyone else? Maybe it's just me...

It's scary to think of what you have and will encounter, but exciting at the same time. I'm envious.

Godspeed

Very nice! I traveled to Chiapas about two years ago. I have a great deal of respect for the Lacandon people. Did you take the boat ride to Yaxchilan also? The Mayan ruins in the rain forest is an awesome sight to see.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes we went up the Usumacinta to Yaxchilan. The entire experience cannot be more highly recommended. The Lacandon treated us very politely - they look like quite the wild bunch, but are actually very nice. Love the long flowing hair with the white gowns. This is where Marcos gets his support. They are fighting for what they believe in, what is rightfully theirs.
