Trail Report/Photo Section/GPS CoordinatesBeen offroad with your FJ? Tell us about it and post up any photos or GPS coordinates so others can possibly follow in your footsteps!
Its too bad that when you where in the Mile "0" City looking for a restaurant to have a nice meal and have your bottle of wine to celebrate Nina's birthday that you didnt try my restaurant. I would have definatly arranged something for a fellow FJ owner. Would have also been very interested in listening to your trip plans as this has been a dream of mine also. This trip is definatly in my "To Do Bucket" and have started to get the FJ modded up for it. Good Luck you guys and have subscribed also. PS. How are you getting around the Darien Gap??

Oh, man I wish I had known about your place earlier!!!
Coming from wine friendly California, we never thought we would have corkage issues in Canada, they have a real Puritanical attitude towards alcohol there!
Actually it worked out just fine - the Angelus would have shone anywhere, even in a subway station. The wine situation in Oaxaca is pretty bleak, I would gladly trade for Canadian wine shops, despite the strange liquor laws.
As for the Darien Gap issue - we will ship the car either to Ecuador or Columbia to get around the roadless section.
Great thread...I'm gald your back on the road and doing fine. I'll be following this one like Thongs adventure. I will do this same route one day, that is why I'm building my rig as an Expedition vehicle. Have fun and post some more pics of your trip.
When do you plan on doing the trip?
I think it will be interesting to see what kind of challenges you can tackle with your highly modified rig. I took the opposite tack - I tried to keep my rig as stock as possible with the minimum necessary modifications. Even with the bare minimum mods we are still running close to GVWR.

Not soon enough.
I would love to do it soon, but as many of you know so well, I have to work for a living.....
I will be taking some time off this year to do an Expedition, at this point I can't say to much about it, but I will say; it's going to be a chance of a life time....More will follow about it in the coming months ahead. In the mean time I will be watching your trek, wishing I was there too...

Driving through the Sierra Madre mountains presents a minor adventure when the paved road abruptly ends and a narrow dirt track begins. After slogging through sixteen dusty but beautiful miles we reached the tiny town of Juquila, famous for its idol of the virgin.
Glad to hear your on the road again. Down in Buenos Aries myself right now and heading to Patagonia next week. Unfortunately I don't have my FJ with me but am hoping to do some wheeling while down there.
Haven't seen an FJ here yet...
Safe Travels
Cheers
You suck too. I think about the Patagonia every day of my life. I hope you rented a D90 down there or a hilux, I doubt they have FJ's but of course I haven't been there for 3 years+
Shreesh,
I'm glad things are going well. I wish I could get you in contact with some of my friends, they would show you around a bit. Do you have a GPS? I could probably research some coordinates for you, but I'm sure you've done plenty of planning already.

I am currently running a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 hooked up to a Garmin 60cx GPS for navigation. I use Garmin nRoute for real-time tracking and Garmin Mapsource to manage the points.
The map data is from 1999 and seems to work more or less. Based on the reviews of the new map data I decided not to upgrade as people we complaining of inaccuracies. I know there are other better solutions out there but it is more work to use them.
Please PM me with any contact information - we love meeting locals whenever we can.
