FJ and friends in Ocotillo Wells

So I had a great weekend! headed out to Ocotillo Wells Friday night to go play with some friends and do a little shake down run of the class 9. Got to camp around 8:30 off of pole line road. Set up my new tent (which suck by the way) then sat around the fire waiting for the others to show up. last guy still not in by the time I hit go to bed around 11:30. He showed up around 12:30am I was tossing and turning all night the stupid tent has to many windows that you can't close so inside my tent was just as cold as out side and that was ~34° I was freezing all night. Saturday was awesome. my buddy showed up with the class 9 around 9:30 we unloaded it while the others in the group got there bikes all warmed up and ready and the baja bug was getting some last minute adjustments made.

My buddy drove the single seater while I followed in the FJ and then we would switch every now and again taking turns driving the 9 car. The 9 car did good the rear suspension needs some work as well as the fuel system but it ran good most of the day even after taking some big hits in the whoop sections and I mean big whoops at 45 mph tossing it into the air like a rag doll.

Ok on to my pics.

FJ and coworkers baja bug right after we brook the bug. I was passenger in the bug and we were racing my buddy in the 9 car we hit a HUG whoop section that sent us into the air then into a noise wheelie we were about straight up and down and nether of us in the bug new what way the rear end was going to fall, we were so close to rolling it. when the rear end finally came down it ended up bending the engine horns and a couple other parts that I don't no the name for and cracking the roll cage the throttle and clutch cables got stretch out so nether one would work. We had huge smilies on are face as we got out of the bug. Nick drove the 9 car back to camp and got the FJ so we could tow it back to camp.

nothing a little duct tape can't fix.

me getting ready to take the 9 car out.

Sunset in the desert

posers at sunset

we all had a great day but were all ready for dinner and a camp fire.
are camp fire was AWESOME to say the lest.

Nick took off kind of early I got a call from him a hour latter saying he got a flat on the trailer. So put all my stuff away and said good buy to every one then took off to help him out. The answer to the question is no there wasn't a spare tire for the trailer which made for a long night to say the least.
I sped off into the night to up the 86s to find Nick he was on the side of the road next to the power plant right were the 86s and 111 meet. He had tried plugs but they did hold so we decided to try a patch.

So we grabbed the hi-lift and popped the bead off with it put a patch on then tried that cool trick with light fluid to put the bead back on and air up all at the same time. all I got to say it WOW it works but if you ever try it go easy on the lighter fluid I put a little to much and when that sucker went it took my arm hair with it and sent the patch right out the hole we were laughing at this point pretty good as a stream of smoke was fling out the hole in the side of the tire. sorry we didn't get any pictures of that part.

since that didn't work and AAA couldn't help with the trailer we called around and found a walmart with the right size tire 35 min away so I took off and picked it up got back an hour and half latter with a tire. We then spent a couple hours fighting the old tire trying to get the stupid thing off. When 2:00 am rolled around we decided to call it a night and just take it to walmart in the morning to mounted it for us. So one more night with hardly any sleep. Got up at 7:00 took off to walmart got it mounted and back to the trailer at 10:00am. put the tire on cleaned up the area and took off. What a weekend of fun friends and excitement.

Re: FJ and friends in Ocotillo Wells

It was a BLAST I wish every outing could be like that minus the flat of course. But even with that we had some fun and played with fire so it can't be to bad. The trip made me want to get a baja bug to beet the crap out of but I figure I have enough toys/projects taking up space and money.

I did nothing and I am sticking to that story.
it is called a Sobo bomb, there sweet.

Dude that one wasn't much smaller. If I didn't have my sweater on all the hair on my right arm would have been gone, I just lost a the little that was showing this time.

Be very careful if you ever try it the tire can easily blow up if you aren't careful, so remember just to use a little. If it doesn't work the first time you can always do it again with a little more. You can't go back and put your arms back on if you use to much.

Re: FJ and friends in Ocotillo Wells

hehe! I bet he'd carry a spare tire for the trailer next time. Did the struggle make you want to just cut the faulty tire off?

We tried. My knife is now as sharp as a butter knife.
