This picture does no justice to this majestic canyon.
On our way back Niko broke a shock tower destroying his nice reservoir Fox shock and spraying me with hydraulic fluid. We tied it off and cruised back to the freeway where we said our goodbyes. No pics, sorry.
I took off from Calico heading northwest, following an unnamed SCE access road I found on Google. I wanted to visit my mother-in-law and get there via dirt since she lives on 150 acres on the outskirts of Hinckley (Eric Brokovich fame) next to BLM land. It was a great ending to a super fun weekend.

You know I didn't want to say this but I will. Why wasn't there more of us at this event? This is one of those huge events where you can make a difference and help take care of ORV lands so they are not taken away from us.
I was dissappointed with the lack of turnout from members from www.FJCruiserforums.com. I was also disappointed with the lack of turnout from a lot of members from Adventure4x4.net.
We all need to give back to our sport or it will be taken away. We all need to plan to attend at least one trail clean up event each year, SoCal members should make it Calico. I know we all have busy lives and understand this but we need to try harder for Calico 09.
If we don't work together to keep Calico clean, people are going to keep dumping their crap there and eventually the BLM might shut it all off because of the trash.
The Calico Cleanup is making a huge impact. The trash levels are down. There is still a lot to pick up but it's not as much as what we hauled out of there in 08. SoCal members, please try to make this event that once a year event to go to.
Get the feeling some people just don't give a damn about trails closing until it's too late? They're always the ones who cry the loudest when there gone.

Great reading and pics! Glad you all had fun and thanks for the hard work
I saw some of you guys' rigs lines up near a fence against the freeway on my way to Vegas Saturday morning. Soon after after passing the line up of rigs I saw the words 'CALICO' on the mountain. I then realized why you guys were there.

Hope to join you next time.

I think that was our group - group 9 - the fighting 9 - "Larry's 9" - OK, this is getting silly. We were the "soft time", light criminal, low security detail assigned to picking up trash by Peggy Sue's Dinner along the 15 freeway.

I agree regarding the FJC's. While there were a good number there, it seemed like it didn't match up to the amount of Toyota support for the event. We had the Trail Team there, we had Toyota throwing in the star raffle prize (TRD supercharger - and I was just like 20 tickets away from that baby!) So it seems like the actual FJC turn out wasn't up to that level of support (still felt a little lost in jeeps).
That said, given that 95% of all vehicles I see on trails are jeeps, it felt like maybe we were proportionately over represented viz. the offroading population. But that's no excuse, we still didn't turn up in numbers - being only proportionately less lame is lame.

I was kinda wondering the same... I was expecting a lot more FJ's there.
I also came up with another peve... since I was working check in most of the time, I had a pretty good idea how many people signed in.. and I rode along shotgun and got a pretty good look at who was out there.
What I did notice was this - there were a good number of people still sitting around camps during the clean up - and when it came time for the free food and raffle, about twice as many people showed up verse those that were cleaning. Seems there were quite a few that showed up only for the free food and prizes, and didn't even help on the clean up part...
