I was up at Cleghorn on Sunday morning (Easter Sunday, almost all alone) and got in a little situation.

I headed up a little side trail that turned out to be a motorcycle trail and got up to a place that I could go no further.

In addition, I didn't have enough room to turn around.

I had to back down a really scary steep piece of the trail before I could turn the rig around (I hadn't had to do this before).

Good thing my Wife was with me (Claudia) who is a good spotter.

Then, just to add a little more excitement, in another very steep part farther down the trail, my passenger rear wheel came way up off the ground and made everyone pucker up real good.

Good fun...
Hehe, I know exactly the spot you're talking about. It ends and you can see the lake. It's tight and no place to turn around. I keep running up there accidentally. You can turn around, but you'll have to be very careful...

It's a black diamond trail. I haven't been on it, but have wanted to. Some black diamonds are so so, this one is probably a little more challenging then the usual black diamonds.

From the pics, it looks steep. I can see why you can't turn around

Did you think all trail ratings are accurate? I've been on black diamonds and thought after where the trail was because it just wasn't that difficult. Trail conditions change and sometimes it might have been a black diamond but people went through it and stacked so many rocks that it's a walk. Where were you last weekend? I was out wheeling just about every weekend this months. fwiw, I've been dirty and scratched.

T been doing this 20+ years, I know trail ratings are subjective, really wasn't argunig about the rating, I have been on that trail more than once. If you must know I had a tough choice, TTORA in Johnson, or a club outing to Hungry Valley & Lockwood, chose the club, zero chance of posers with the club..... What have you done lately to have a positive impact on our sport???CA4WDC member? CORVA member? Blue Ribbon? Will we see you on earth day 4-19-08 in Big Bear to do work on true black diamond trails?? Remember Adopt a trail 4-16-08 in Corona, or was that just more blather....

Re: 3/24/08 Cleghorn, 2N17X, Pilot Rock

Does 2N17X included the hard bypass near the end of Cleghorn trail (from Cleghorn to Silverwood)? I'm not sure if I've done parts of 2N17X, but the part we went down on the Sunrise run at the beginning of March was pretty scary. The recent rains then had left silt and sediment on the larger rock faces, so it was very loose. I was already going down it, so there wasn't much of a choice. Going up would have been impossible for me.

I did have driver's side fender carnage on one of the narrower sections of Cleghorn, so it could have been me. Any pictures of which part had the blue paint?

This is awesome, I am sure we will soon have some pics of a group that makes it through this trail. I want to try it again soon. See ya all at the Meet and Greet and maybe on the 2N17X.
