Re: Johnson Valley 2008 Pictures

What a great event Chris! Thanks for organizing the event and doing all the little things that people didn't see to make this a great turnout. Thanks to the Central Trail Team for coming out and making the runs. The hat and stickers were great too! Jon, thanks for leading the medium run and making sure we make it out of Fissure without fissures. That medium run was more then I expected. The first rock garden took a little more then lockers to get me through. Hate to say it, but I needed some stacking. The scenery was terrific and the weather was perfect. It was windy Friday night, but Saturday was just great.

I got in Friday morning and got a ride with Chris in his Tacoma truggy. There's a reason those things have exos! It was fun meeting new people and I'm ashamed that I could not remember more names then Bruce and Tayler. I remember you just not your name.

Toyota Trail Team got in as we returned from Sledgehammer. After a short chat we decided to go play around the north side of JV. Bruce took us to the dunes and then onward to Aftershock. Thanks for showing us the exit to Aftershock and the trails nearby. We took the trail to the entrance and then further east to the border of the Marine base. At that point, we found a canyon that opened up to a lake bed. The TTs did great eventhough they are riding Revtek spacers. By the time we got back to camp it was around 6. Met up with psheat at the camp and chatted over mods, runs, and just about everything. Finally found the cell tree/bush and found that Dustpark and Skersfan has already arrived at Jon's cabin. At this time the wind is gusting and I'm glad that Skersfan offered me his trailer! Thank you Bob! Finally found my way to Jon's cabin. Jon's burgers and potatos sure smelled great, but since my fridge broke I had to finish what I had. I'll take a raincheck on the burgers. It was nice and warm at the cabin. Brent, Cheryl, Bob, and Jon were great company. Slept like a baby that night.

Saturday driver's meeting was 9am. It was much busier Saturday (I guess people work on Fridays ). Groups were split and the medium group was led by Jon. We did Fissure Mountain and then we dropped in the exit of Sledgehammer. The entrance to Fissure is a rock garden with a lot of loose rocks. You can definitely see the advantage of Dustpark and Skersfan's rigs with front locker. I need to do my Atrac hack soon...

Sledgehammer was beat up. I was fortunate to have a ride in Jon's buggy. He took me down to the mailbox and back. There's a short video of the return trip on Vimeo. That thing is a beast. It seems like there's nothing it can't get over. No banging, no drama, just up and over. I'm sure a lot of it is driver skill too! 450hp didn't hurt either though.

I'm sure you're waiting on pics so I'll just dump them all here and annotate them as I get the chance.

Thanks again to everyone for another memorable TTORA event.

Hanging out with the truggies. Friday was Sledgehammer.

Chris' rig. Thanks for the ride!

Beadlocks really help.

Chris going over a waterfall

Turns out a full sized Bronco broke down a little way up from us and is blocking the trail. The front end needs a lot of work and we had to turn around. I heard it was still on the trail Saturday afternoon...

Meeting up with the Trail Team after Sledgehammer.

Too much fun on the lake. Not someone with TTORA.

Heading out for a run on the north side of JV. Stopped and played at the dunes.

Aftershock exit

Saturday driver's meeting.

Heading out to Fissure. Little playing at the dunes.

Jason Demello's supercharged FJ sounded like a jet!

Entrance to Fissure.
