Hey guys, we had a BLAST in Moab with you all. Thanks for making our first trip out with the FJCruiser Forum such a success.
We ran 7 Mile and Steelbender with a great group of people. Steelbender was for sure the highlight of the trip for us.

Thanks for posting some pics already MoabRat. I'm looking forward to seeing more...
I will tonight, cleaning the interior of mud now so I don't mess up my work clothes tomorrow lol. We did Onion Creek to Thompson Pass trying to get to the La Sal Loop with Grandma and our two year old yesterday. We counted 27 stream crossings and they were all deep, so fun. The pass was still buried in 3 feet of snow and mud but it was fun trying. Guess we should have shut the windows . Back soon tonight.

Wow...what a weekend...some great shots...some carnage...some clown(meth/crack head) in a "stock 97 TJ" that was pissed because we were causing his bread to burn??...meeting new people...hitting new trails...lots of new pinstriping...just a trip that had a little of everything.

Here are just a few to get things started....be sure to click on the bar to get the full picture.

Between Monitor and Merrimac...

The Rats going down Wipe-Out Hill...

Voodoogirl playing on some steps...

ropedrag leading the way into Steelbender...

...and NodNarb washing his shoes at the end of Steelbender...

...Many more to come ...and some video???

Holy Smokes, well, we don't try easy trails in this group. I'm sorry you had the bad rings guys. Hope the dealers do right by everyone. They should not detonate doing what they are supposed to do. We have so much documentation of the problem with the early automatics and the diffs. Hope it does the trick. So glad you came though! Moab was amazing this year. Cool and clear. The trails were beautiful from the efforts of Red Rocks club for the Safari and the weather was PERFECT. I can't wait for next April.

Hey Moabrat,

Wasn't trying to pile on or anything, just giving an update from running gold bar and golden Spike up to the Golden Crack. For a newbie like me, it was a baptism by fire doing the body snatcher, slide rock, and the golden stairs once going in and again coming out. It was tough and nerves got jangled, but it was very awesome stuff. I never thought I would be doing obstacles like that my first time out.

As for my dealership, it looks like they are going to drop a new rear end in for me, so I'm pretty pleased. I've been pretty lucky to work with some reasonable guys down at Mark Miller.

In the meantime I'm looking forward to doing some trips here with the local group.

Re: Moab Spring Fling 2008 Photos

Wow, what a great trip. Once again the wheeling community proved to be generous. I would like to thank Ropedrag for letting me ride shotgun and even drive his rig up a few obstacles. It sure helped with the withdrawals. He even let me drive some AFTER I went up one entire obstacle with the parking brake on . Also a big thanks to VoodooGirl and Flymatic Jester for letting Davin ride with them. We are both very glad that we made the trip despite being FJ-less.

Tony

P.S. The only bad part about driving Ropedrag's rig is that I now HAVE to get a set of KM2s for my FJ. Those tires stick to the slick rock extremely well!!!!

Here are some pics from Saturdays Metal Masher run:

Woohoo...the trailhead sign:

One of the jeeps in the group attempting the optional Rock Chucker...a very tough obstacle!

I made it up thru Mirror Gulch without damage, thanks to my spotter:

Kathy hitting the same obstacle:

Lunch at the lookout spot.....very nice view.

Ken heading up Mother-In-Law...a fiesty little obstacle:

All in all a great day with great company and great fun...my first Moab trail.

Re: Moab Spring Fling 2008 Photos

2nd day pics including a run thru Gold Bar rim, then Golden Spike to the Golden Crack and back again.

On the gemini bridges trailhead airing down the rigs:

Slide Rock, going down on the way in:

And coming back up on the way out:

One of the several sets of stairs to negotiate on the way in:

Then on to Golden Spike, where the challenges get turned up a notch!!!

Coming down the body snatcher...and yes there was plenty of glass on that rock to the right.

Heading back up on the way out:

Down the Golden Stairs which were much nastier in real life than this pic shows...a true white knuckle obstacle for me going down:

A lot saner to head up them:

The big hill obstacle...and once again this photo does no justice to how steep this is:

We finally arrive at the Golden Crack with thinned out numbers:

And who do we see in the distance not 15 minutes later...The Triple team coming from the other direction that left early in the morning:

Kathy going thru the Golden Crack...she put on a really nice show for us, I wish I had a video of it.

The Golden Spike was the real deal with all the brutal obstacles you could ever hope for...well not all, but many at least.

Nice, nice photos KBJames, and big props to you for your enthusiasm (and courage) taking on some hellacious initial runs and maintaining the great attitude despite the diff gremlin that got a few of our group.
