woody's probably still stuck in the kitchen at the springs, so I'll share my perspective. there were a number of roof top tents on vehicle that made it through just fine. however, adding a roof top tent is going to make your FJC even more tippy and there are a number of places on the trail where tippy is not going to be your friend. my FJC is very tall and my gobi rack has scratches in it from branches, so if you do take a rtt through just make sure that you are OK will scratches and possible damage and you'll be fine.
Thanks Sol,
You've touched on concerns I continue to have. While the RTT would be wonderful for our expedition travel, I still am weighing the benefit vs liabilities of them.
Awesome ride, BTW!!!!
cheers,
dale

Next year...next year! Already so excited. Nice job Ca Annie on the grand prize and thank you all of you for these wonderful pics. Living vicariously this morning.
I grew up in Placer County...not terribly far from all this, hiked John Muir trail as a scout and I recognize all that wonderful granite.
I'm sure the experience is as good if not better than what I'm feeling when admiring these pics...I'm so in if there's another one next year!!!
Thank you so much for sharing, I'm glad everyone had a great time...PRICELESS!!!
Thanks to everyone with their great comments. And, considering that this was the 20th annual Rubithon, I would guess that there will be another next year...
As for Roof top Tents -- You can do it, just make sure the armor around it is good. Yes, you are adding 100+ lbs to your roof, but that's not too bad. MTBCoach had at least 200+ on his.

Hey, I resemble that remark. I may just have to weigh everything once I get home and see what the "real" number is.
Yeah, without the dog, I would have packed the back up with the stuff. But, I had to give the dog a place to hang out and I have an obsession about seeing out the back, keeping everything under the rear window.
Very cool! I had to hold my breath just looking at some of those pictures. What an adventure!
Jerry - You must be some sort of Super Dad to convince your girls to spend their summer doing this. Do they get to drive sometimes? The puppy seems content to just be along for the ride.
Enjoy the rest of your trip!
