Moab w/ Inchworm "Lefty" (photos)
Tried my new Inchworm "Lefty" transfer case out in Moab last week. FMD, that thing is fun! Incredible control, especially going down a steep descent or coming off a large obstacle. Far superior to stock; can't imagine why Toyota didn't put a lower-geared transfer case in the FJC in the first place.
As a side note, it was my first time back to Moab in many many years, since before the trail system was developed or named. I lived there once upon a time (1977-78), but hardly recognized the place now - kind of sad, what was once a quiet sleepy friendly town is now overrun with traffic, tourists, hippies and commercialism. Oh well, progress I guess... at least the trails are still open for the most part.
Did Seven Mile Rim (including Wipeout Hill), Behind the Rocks, Strike Ravine, and Area BFE including the parts of Lower Helldorado still available from there. And some lesser trails. What a blast! Can't wait to go back. A few photos from trail buddies:
The Golden Crack. Lefty makes this ridiculously easy:
Down and up Wipeout Hill:
Don't remember which trail this was, but it was fun!
Lower Helldorado:
Verdict: two thumbs up for Lefty! The only thing remotely like a complaint I have is that I have to shift between 4-low and 4-high more now; top practical speed in low range is only about 10 mph. Worth it for the extra low-speed control.

Great pics and some trail names that I don't recognize.
Does the high range ratio remain the same for highway driving ?

How was the Bill Burke class?
It was GREAT, I learned so much, I hope I can remember it all. Tons of stuff I had either been doing wrong all these years or could do a lot better the right way. I highly recommend his classes to anyone of any experience level.

Sorry, we didn't get to see in Moab on Saturday.
I called Dale when I got back off the trail on Saturday (he was the only one who responded to my post on the expedition thread about meeting in town, so the only phone number I had), but he had already left for home. He said you were at the Moab Brewery but it looked packed and I just eaten there the night before. Maybe next time -

Yeah, the trail names are new to me too; last time I was there you just picked a dirt road off of 191 or 128 or in Canyonlands NP (no permit required then).

Exactly; high range is 1:1 from the output shaft of the tranny.

Nice report. And, I couldn't agree more in that driving the FJC with the Lefty gives so much more control than stock. Yes, shifting into 4-Hi is needed if going on fireroads and not wanting to hold up a group. When I running with others, they always wonder why I'm going so SLOOOOW. I just shrug my shoulders and say...because I can...
Great shots! Come back up for the Spring Fling in April. We have several rigs that have come up from TX. to join us in the past years. Link is in my sig line.

Almost looked like a roller in one of them.
I had the Oh Sh!t meter (clinometer) off-scale at one point, and it didn't roll but it was a sphincter-clencher for sure.

Especially like that vertical climb (a little photo lean?)!
Yeah, I didn't take the picture of course. While the view is exagerated, that hill (Wipeout Hill) was very steep. I've found that photos never do justice to actual steepness.

Can't remember if you said you put the ARB air locker on before you left or not...
Nope, it's still in the shop waiting to go on. I had to work a few bugs out of the Lefty install before leaving for Moab.

I would like to, thanks; have to see how my business schedule is between now and then.
