My brother and I both purchased new FJ's, so last weekend we decided to give them some time in the dirt, and to accumulate the necessary scratches of honor. Our friend Bill and his Rubicon tagged along. A quick stop for our first beers of the day.
After the first beer it was off to the Indian graffiti zone. This road was a blast to drive. Avg 40 MPH..
My bro speeding along as he catches up.
Bill is trying to explain the virtues of owning a Rubicon. Problem is you can't put a regular size ice chest in that tiny ride.
After a few beers and about 10 miles here we are at the Indian graffiti rocks. Nicely blocked off by the authorities and there telephone pole logs.
Another shot to show the vastness of this area
Because of the gov control of the Indian site. Bill knows of an uncontrolled Indian site which we make our next beer stop. This picture is an 'Antelope on a cactus". Not sure of the meaning.
And the best of all, the Phoenix, bird of fire.
Around the corner from the bird is a mining camp where the miners cut out a sleeping area from the hillside rock. Very cool indeed and out of the wind. Bro is lighting up a cigar.
Inside the cave/home
One more of bro creeping into a rocky section up ahead.
The white area down there is the cave/home, and that peak in the upper right is Opal mountain.
After a day of drinking and wheeling, Bro and I find a nice little volcanic mountain to hide from the wind. This is now morning and I have a slight hangover. Didn't even eat chow that night, just smoked gars and drank VSOP brandy.
My trusty Kelly Kettle warming up some water for Jo. It's a nice morning and not a sound to be heard. Best of all no freaking people or authorities lurking about.
And finally a wild flower picture to end it with.
All in all a nice trip. Many scratches, and 93 miles of dirt. The FJ's were put through the paces and came out winners. Next time I'll stay away from the Brandy and eat dinner.
