Not Rover but I can answer this question -

The dinosaurs reached their zenith in the Jurassic Period 180 - 140 million years ago and to a somewhat lesser extent in the Cretaceous (140 - 70 million years ago). So to even potentially have fossil dinosaurs, you must first have Jurassic or Cretaceous-age sedimentary rocks exposed at the surface where they can be studied and excavated. Much of the western interior U.S. is covered with Jurassic or Cretaceous sedimentary rocks at the surface, but in the eastern U.S. there are either not as many preserved or exposed at the surface, or the Jurassic rocks there are not sedimentary and hence do not contain preserved fossils. There are lots of fossils older than the dinosaurs back east, but the vast preponderance of dinosaur fossils in the U.S. are in the west.
I knew I should have paid more attention in geology class!

Just kidding. Great explanation!

Why not come out for Cruise Moab? April 28th-May2... It is a TLCA event and tons of FJCs come out every year...
I'd definately be interested in doing Cruise Moab this year. I couldn't find any info, other than the dates, online. Although it is a little early for that I suppose.

What was the entry fee for the Cruise Moab last year? I thought is was pretty high and when combined with the EJS and Memorial Day trips, I couldn't justify spending the cash. I definately want to do some of the more challenging trails as a member of a group as I am still pretty new to the off-road world.
