Utah Spring Trip

I am planning a spring break trip to southern Utah with my Daughter. The plan is to leave Colorado Springs on March 23 or 24 so arrive Moab that night. Leave Moab the next day and travel the following route:

- Lockhart Basin Rd to Canyon Lands
- Elephant hill - Pappy's Pasture - House park - Salt Creek Mesa to Bridges
- Bridges to the Ferry on Lake Powell
- Lake Powell to Waterpocket Fold RD and maybe over to Escalate
- Then up through Capital Reed on the back roads
- Over San Rafael Swell to I 70 then home.

Should be a 7 or 8 day trip maybe more.

Any Interest?

Wow, sounds like a great trip! I sure wish I could tag along. Maybe when my little one is a bit older. We have a group going out for a few day trips 4/13-4/15 if you want to take another jaunt though. You certainly sound like a like soul lol.

Re: Utah Spring Trip

Excellent itinerary planned. I'd be interested to hear how Lockhart Basin was in the FJ. I'm assuming you're taking the ferry from Hall's Crossing over to Bullfrog. You should definitely turn left just north of Bullfrog and take the road just to the east of waterpocket fold, then take the little road west that goes over to Boulder, UT. Goes right up the fold, hairpin turns etc... then you get on top and there is a great petrified wood area. You should also take the time to go from Boulder to Escalante...great road. If time permits go down the road to Hole in the Rock. (Peek a Boo and Surprise Canyons are on that road, and you can do both in @ 4-6 hours...max.) How old's your daughter? You do have to hike through some waist-deep and cold water. But she'd never forget it! (Nor you.) At any rate...great trip planned. Wish I could tag along. (Next year I'll be retired...so maybe.)

Re: Utah Spring Trip

That will be an excellent trip; I've been all of those places and they're all cool. Capitol Reef one of the neater, less-crowded, unknown joys of the Nat'l. Park system. I camped/lived there for part of one summer. See if they will still let you camp in the old pioneer orchard.
