Whoa, hang on there Mark! You might want to take another look at the TLCA Vehicle Inspection Requirements as it pertains to Hi-lift jacks, CB radios, and other stuff. We don’t want to discourage folks from attending who will be bringing vehicles to Coal Mine that are in stock, or very close to stock configuration.
While it is important to be able to change a flat or to lift a vehicle at times on the trail, a Hi-Lift it serves no purpose if you don’t have lift-points on your vehicle in which to do this. Yes, a Hi-Lift type of jack is an ‘evaluated’ item according to the Inspection Report, but if you’re driving a vehicle with no provisions to accept a Hi-Lift, then it makes having one senseless in most situations. I think that is why the Hi-Lift is not a safety requirement, only an ‘evaluated’ item.
Also, the CB radio is listed as an “Item to Consider” and not a required item, according to the TLCA. I agree with you that not having a working CB in your vehicle puts you at a definite disadvantage, but it is not listed as a must-have. For safety’s sake, you SHOULD have one, though.
Singularly the most important thing for all registrants at CMCC is that they are members in good standing with the TLCA. Your membership must be current (due paid) in order to participate in the event. Go here to register and for more information:
