GCLC Coal Mine Cruiser Classic - Rausch Creek (July 12-14)

The GCLC Coal Mine Cruiser Classic at Rausch Creek Off-Road Park in Joliet, PA is coming up in July. It's the same dates as Ouray, but for those who can't make it that far, it's a nice alternative.

Check out the web page if you're not going to Ouray, and are looking to do some wheeling so you won't be too depressed about not being there.

Re: GCLC Coal Mine Cruiser Classic

I've been eyeing this event for awhile now. My club will be attending the TTORA mini takeover at Rausch later in July, but I may be able to swing both events

Just looking at the Equipment/Safety requirements.
I don't have a cb radio or high lift jack. Are these absolute necessities?

Thanks!

I'll check and get back on that. It wasn't at Paragon, but RC might be different.

This is the answer I got back from one of our club officers...

> A question came up on the FJCruiser Forum.
> >

> >truck?

Yes, yes, yes!... A CB (can be handheld - see below) and a jack that
will lift YOUR truck up enough to change a tire (doesn't have to be a
"Hi-Lift") are required. As is a basic first aid kit and a fire
extinguisher. If you're gonna be in the woods with us you gotta be
prepared. It's common sense too.

I have one of these and they are great:

http://www.amazon.com/Midland-75-822.../dp/B00000K2YR

use in vehicle hard wired to an external antenna and plugged in to
power or swap on the battery holder and walk around... Built like a
cruiser - solid and heavy.
-------------------
So I guess the answer is yes to the CB, and a yes to a lift that will lift your truck enough to change a tire while off-road.

Hope that doesn't change your mind. These are things you should probably have anyway if you off-road regularly.

I completely agree with what you said.
I ended up buying hi lift online with some other goodies I didn't have that will help with recovery efforts. Good stuff from this place (If anyone else is lacking the proper equipment): http://www.redrock4x4.com/shop/categories/74.html

Trying to get myself set up as best I can for offroad situations. I'm almost there. Pull Pal is still on my list of "to gets". Bought Bill Burke's "Getting UNStuck" video a while back and have watched it a couple times.

Just trying to prioritize what is needed first. ($$$)
Have gone in the group buy for power tank already (although I do have a little compressor in the FJ)

As for the CB radio, well I'm going to do a little research. I am trying to keep my electronics down to a minimum in my rig. Handheld might be the way to go. Thanks for the link.

As for the CMCC, I am planning on going. Waiting to hear back from a friend who might be interested in tagging along for the adventure. My guess is I will be going solo though. Tough to find someone to take off on Thurs & Fri from work. My wife can't take any more time off from her job, so she can't do it.

Will keep you posted!

Thanks

Re: GCLC Coal Mine Cruiser Classic

Regarding required equipment, the following was posted to the Gotham list by Mike ...
-------------
Whoa, hang on there Mark! You might want to take another look at the TLCA Vehicle Inspection Requirements as it pertains to Hi-lift jacks, CB radios, and other stuff. We don’t want to discourage folks from attending who will be bringing vehicles to Coal Mine that are in stock, or very close to stock configuration.

While it is important to be able to change a flat or to lift a vehicle at times on the trail, a Hi-Lift it serves no purpose if you don’t have lift-points on your vehicle in which to do this. Yes, a Hi-Lift type of jack is an ‘evaluated’ item according to the Inspection Report, but if you’re driving a vehicle with no provisions to accept a Hi-Lift, then it makes having one senseless in most situations. I think that is why the Hi-Lift is not a safety requirement, only an ‘evaluated’ item.

Also, the CB radio is listed as an “Item to Consider” and not a required item, according to the TLCA. I agree with you that not having a working CB in your vehicle puts you at a definite disadvantage, but it is not listed as a must-have. For safety’s sake, you SHOULD have one, though.

Singularly the most important thing for all registrants at CMCC is that they are members in good standing with the TLCA. Your membership must be current (due paid) in order to participate in the event. Go here to register and for more information: http://www.tlca.org/

Anyone who wants to review the TLCA Inspection Report, go here: http://www.tlca.org/events/inspection.shtml

-- Mike in PA

PS: I have a Hi Lift jack here at the house that will be part of the raffle as well as several Fire Stick CB antennas, so buy lots of raffle tickets to increase your chances of winning some of this really cool stuff!!!

Thanks for the followup on the list of required equipment.

Hope more that can't make it to Ouray consider this a great alternative

BTW
Still think hi-lift and CB are good things to have anyway!
(I have points all over my rig to make a hi-lift usable)

Re: GCLC Coal Mine Cruiser Classic - Rausch Creek (July 12-14)

Got this reminder today from GCLC, thought I'd pass it on...
------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a reminder for all of you last-minute folks out there: ONE MONTH TO GO!

The Coal Mine Cruiser Classic 2007 will be held July 12-14th at
Rausch Creek Off-Road Park.

See http://www.gclcny.com for details and applications. As a TLCA sanctioned event CMCC is open to all Toyota 4x4 vehicles including of course the cool new FJ Cruiser. There are trails for all vehicle types and driver skill levels.

This is a family oriented event so feel free to bring the spouse and kids... And as if that's not enough: The raffle prize list is teriffic and getting better every day. Check out the page of participating vendors on the GCLC site. There's lots of valuable and cool stuff to win!
