Ok, we finally got the permit from the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge for 15 vehicles !!!!! yeah !!! It was really hard, it took over a month but we finally got it.
It will be: FEBRUARY 9 - 10th.
There will be three 5 vehicle convoys leaving each hour beginning at 8 am from AJO, AZ. We will meet later down the road and camp all together at the Tinajas Altas Campground.
On Saturday February 9 10-15 vehicles will depart on an epic adventure through the world famous Devil’s Highway in southern Arizona. The trip itself will last until Sunday the 10th but will stay in their memories forever.
We will start close to Ajo early on Saturday and end up close to Yuma on Sunday afternoon. All the mysterious details for this expedition will be send by email in PDF format. There is NO COST per vehicle. You are responsible for all the costs involved including getting your personal permit.
To get your permit in Phoenix, you have to contact
BLM office
21605 N 7th Ave
Phoenix, AZ 85027
623-580-5500
The office is only open Monday - Friday, (7 to 3pm)so you should get it before. They will make you watch a 20 min video, so allow yourself some time to do it.
For other locations or to get it directly at AJO contact
Cabeza Prieta Refuge at 520-381-6483
They also open only Monday - Friday, so you would have to go Friday and sleep in Ajo the day before.
YOU MUST CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION ASAP, we will leave the old list until JAN 31, then we start taking new people. If there are not 15 in the list, then we will gather some more people from Adventure 4x4 and Overland Society that may or may not be FJs, so hopefully we all FJ at the end.
The group is closed. No more participants, thank you for your interest. We will do another run in October or November.
Look at the pictures and a short history of how we did on the Pre-Run at our Expeditioneers page

Hey Carrie and eveyone else bringing someone...It is important to let us know how many in your party because each PERSON has to sign the forms for us & the gov not just each RIG.
Also each PERSON needs to fill out the survey so we need to know how many copies to send out.
Keep the excitement up folks January will be here real soon

Re: Camino del Diablo 08 – An Adventure Expedition
I've been wanting to do this for the longest time, I wish I had seen this posted earlier. As such, I've talked my friend/mechanic into doing this run in March. I have ordered maps and guide books, and just posted this on Adventure 4x4. I would bow down to your infinite expertise, on this trail, and welcome any advice on planning and logistics. We have done Mojave trail several times, as well as Applegate, Steel Pass, and other long distance runs. In fact, that is our preferred type of trail, rather than short tougher types, although we have done those too. We are all Gps equipped, usually carry 10 gallons of water and gas, and have rented satalite phones in the past. But this is sort of the the one we have'nt tackled yet, and would like to do so. Any help would be extrtemely useful. Thankyou.

For how great a run this seems and how close it is to my home (Tucson), I foresee myself doing it many times in the future. After doing it, I'd love to come with you guys and be that a-hole who pretends he knows everything about the trail! hahaha!
Re: Camino del Diablo 08 – An Adventure Expedition
Like I posted on Adventure4x4 I think there is enough interest that we will have to put together another run in either Feb or March so if you want to go please post interest so we can keep tabs on eveyone.
If for some reason you would rather travel alone (not recommended) or with your own group (remember normal max is 4 rigs) please let us know as we are happy to pass on much of the info we have. Waypoints, permit info, our thoughts, and more....your overland experience is our concern whether it is with us or not.
