Wired Mag's Baja 1000 "Travel Guide"

I saw this while reading Wired magazine last night. It's cool they have it online as well. I think it was fun to read, and wanted to share.

Do the San Diego or SoCal FJ'ers ever organize a Baja run or event? If not, maybe we should talk, no?

yes and no.

some one just tried to get a trip going down there to watch the 1000 but no one said anything. We also tried to plan a trip for the 250 and that didn't go well ether. People are scared of Mexico for some reason.

Re: Wired Mag's Baja 1000 "Travel Guide"

I have only been down here about a month now so I did not have time to set it up this year with the move and a new baby but I am going next year with my son. I would love to have a group or someone that has been there before but if not I am still headed down there. I know I know only 367 days away but you have to start planning sometime. Who is in?

Re: Wired Mag's Baja 1000 "Travel Guide"

I have been down to Baja multiple times throughout the years, and I have never had one single episode of bad luck. I have driven all the way down to Cabo San Lucas for camping/sightseeing, I have traversed the peninsula for mountain biking in a remote lake area (a nature preserve called Laguna Hansen) in the high desert, and I have kayaked in the Sea of Cortez for an entire month island hoping without an incident. I have either been extremely lucky, or I am doing something right. I think it is a little bit of both; regardless, I am always up for a Baja trip, especially with a group of FJ'ers. Let's keep the flame going, maybe I can convince Frogeye and FJ-Ollie here locally to commit emotionally and we can organize something in the near future.

I think they would be down for a trip to Baja. Just need to make plans far in advance for a baja trip.
