Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

Pretty sure it's the Pedlar district. I'll find the number and call. May be some bear hunters this time of the year?

Anyone else in?

not sure of which office it would fall under but i am sure they can tell you.

Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

I drove to Shoe Creek today, Christmas day. I drove in from the crabtree falls side. After passing the crabtree meadows parking area, I continued down the hill. It got rocky and I proceeded slowly down the hill. I had a pair of hedge clippers with me, and cleared off some of the pin-stripping branches along the way. I am not real familiar with the trail. I kept bearing right at a couple of forks, I was not sure which was the best or main path to take. I ended up at are at a clearing at the bottom (with the exception of brushy growth). There was what looked like an old concrete spring head at the side of this clearing. I thought I could figure out where I was on my topo map and it looked like I could keep going and get back to the main road, but it was starting to get late, and I was out of time and did not want to keep exploring unknown territory. So I turned around and came back up.
I hope to be able to make it in March.
I am interested in info anyone can give me as to where the trails continue to, and the conditions. I am coming from Lynchburg, and it seems that there must be a entrance I could get to closer from the other side, but from crabtree is all I know.

did you cross thru a creek/drive down a creek? i am thinking that you didnt go the same way we normally go. we come in thru a little dead end road and come out the way you went in. i need to get on my gps and get the cordinates and see if i can figure out where i was...then maybe we can figure out where you were too.

Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

Sorry I haven't been back on.

The trail will go through to another road not sure of the name. The trail follows the creek for the most part, crossing it maybe a half dozen times.

damnit! I'll have to pass. I'm swamped at work. Sucks too, I haven't had a chance to take my FJ off road yet!

Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

Don't sweat it, there will be many more opportunities for this run. This or GWNF are both about equal distances for me, both are nice casual runs. I could be convinced to do either of these runs often.
