Still really looking forward to March 1st. Coming from Norfolk/Virginia Beach, it'll be the first offroad camping trip in the FJ. Also, a good chance to try out the new upgrades to the FJ that will be done by then. If we keep spreading the word, we should be able to get a good number.

Just got back from doing this run with FJWoods (Byron). Its a stock friendly trail, and was a LOT of fun. It was the most intense trail riding I've done (I'm a novice) but the FJ did great...definitely cant wait until the next run!
Theres just something cool about crossing a stream, then having to climb a biiig hill of rocks

Did you all go in from the Montebello or Lowesville side?

honestly im not sure. It was the opposite way that Byron normally goes. The trail was much rougher in the beginning than it was at the end, if that helps.

We came in from the Lowesville side. I am going to post some pictures. I had been on the other side several times before, and now I know where I went off the main trail.
I had previously come in from Montebello, I had gone down the rough area, past Crabtree Meadows parking, and I went right at a fork. This is where I had run into a lot of brush that needed to be clipped back and eventually turned back. I now know, the main trail was to the left at the fork.
The lower Lowesville end is nice, several nice water crossings.
Today we made a wrong turn and went off the main trail for a short while, until it got pretty rough. I got out and walked and soon realized there were no tire marks in the dirt. A sure sign something was wrong! Turned around and got back on the right road.
It was a good run. We ran into a small caravan of Jeeps at the Crabtree Meadows parking. They were on there way going out to Montebello
We were wondering about the no trespassing signs, Looking at my topo map I see that there are areas that are private property on that side of the mountain, but the road is public. There are several forks in the road that are not on my topo map, but now I know what the main path is, I might explore some of the side areas some other time.
I see that there is a peak named "the priest" that looks like about a mile hike on the Appalachian trail, I would also like to hike up to there sometime.
Will post pictures later today or tomorrow.
For some reason, I have never figured out how to post larger pictures. I downsize them to a file size that is accepted, and they are posted as thumbnails. What do I need to do?
Hey,,,, if I break up my long post into multiple.... maybe I'll eventaully have enough to remove "new member" from my profile Whats the magic number? Darn... I should of put each sentence in a different post!
here is a video from when we went a couple years ago. at the time i was still driving my grand cherokee. I am pretty sure it shows that creek crossing that leads up to the rocky hill climb. Also this is coming in from the difficult end and going towards the easier end.
