I went with a friend in a stock Nissan Frontier. I would venture a guess that a stock 2x4 fj would have no problem. Next time I run it I will go 2x4 :-)

I am not sure about the 2x4. I had mine in low range, and the A track was at work several times. I consider it pretty rocky and steep in places. It would be interesting to try without 4x4, but I would not want to be alone.

Hi everyone. We're planning on getting up there Friday night around 5pm, camping the night, and meeting everyone Saturday morning. Does anyone have a favorite campsite, already have plans to camp, or know of coordinates /directions of a good site?

Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

Really starting to get excited. Hey for some of you guys that have run it recently, do you know of any good landmarks near the trail that we can use as a meeting point?

Couple ideas we had were:
1. a little county store a few miles before you get to the turn off for the trail that i was thinking about. i stopped there last year because i could not get the grand cherokee to shift. Thought i had a sensor unplugged but turns out the speed sensor had gone bad.
2. We are coming off of 29 from the lynchburg area. We have met in the parking lot of a country store on the corner of 29 and 151. This is still a good distance from the trail and would be out of the way for anyone that is going to camp.

anywho....they had a large parking lot and looked as though they would not be upset by a large group of people buying snacks and such before going on the trail. Also wondered if everyone would have cb's or what? last time we went we all ran channel 3, didnt seem like much other background traffic.

Re: Shoe Creek, Va Near March 1, 2008

I think I know that gas station you are talking about....I believe I stopped there with FJWoods. There was a group of Jeeps there when we pulled in, so they are probably used to frequent groups.

I'm going to have to get a pair of CB's. They seem pretty handy!

Also, a small group is going up there Feb 2nd so far, if you feel like going a couple weeks before THIS one
