Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

I just sent in my request for a Rec Pass for myself and my wife. Not sure if I'll get them before this one. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hey Apex, do you have an official itinerary for this run? The reason I ask is because this is on MLK weekend giving me Monday off work too. Are you heading back Sunday morning or evening or Monday? Thanks-
This is what I have in mind so far:
Friday 18 Jan-
7:00pm-??? Pre-run Meet and Greet at McGuire's Irish Pub

Saturday 19 Jan-
10:00am Rendezvous at the meeting spot at N30 33'26.95" W086 55'09.92" Air down and hit the trails by 10:30.
Lunch will be on the trail at one of numerous spots suitable for this many vehicles.
4:30PM Set camp on the beach at East Bay in time for Sunset. Camp fire, smores, shrimp-boil for MissMy60 (Bay Shrimp) , yada yada yada...
7:00pm 'ish Night run through to return non-campers to civilization and their toasty warm staterooms This time will be flexible, of course.

Sunday 20 Jan-
9:00am Break camp and start back toward Rendezvous spot.
10:00am Rendezvous at the meeting spot and re-hit the trails by 10:30. Again, lunch will be on the trail at one of numerous spots suitable for this many vehicles.
4:00pm 'ish Find our way back to civilization and say our Farewells. Perhaps ribs at East River Smokehouse (1968 Highway 87 S. 850-939-2802)

Monday 21 Jan-
????-???? I will probably not be up for much off-roading action on this day but would be glad to meet some folks for a trip through some local points of interest such as the Museum of Naval Aviation, Fort Barrancas, Santa Rosa Island (read, "the beach"), etc. I know some folks had expressed an interest in a trip to Destin.

This is just a rough outline, we have a bit of flexibility, and we all know the best laid plans last only thirty seconds under fire. SOOoooo...

They should have you fixed up by then. Shall I add you to the list of attendees?

By the way, who IS interested in camping Sat. night at East Bay? It will be primitive camping with temps likely to reach the 40-50 degree mark overnight. Not so bad, but you have to be somewhat prepared for it.

I'll be camping that night, I love the spot.

I'll be camping for sure. In fact, I'm looking for a campsite that isn't a parking lot with fire rings (KOA) for Friday night and possibly Sunday night. I don't think I'll be able to make the pre-run dinner/beers, as I'll have a puppy with me.

If anyone is interested, the Air Force Armament Museum is also in the Fort Walton area:

Fact Sheets : Air Force Armament Museum : Air Force Armament Museum
Air Force Armament Museum - Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida

I have not been there myself, so I can't tell you if it's worth the trip or not (but admission is FREE )

Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

Looks like my wife and I are staying in Perdo that weekend, if she hasn't gone into labor yet. So I will be heading over that morning to do some wheelin'. May try and come meet at the Pub if it's not to late when we arrive.

I can't wait to meet the southeast FJ community.

By the way you guys should check out the Brawndo videos on you tube. Funny as hell.

Apex,

I am now tentative for the trip. I rolled my Fj this weekend and will have to wait for what USAA does with it (it is pretty bad so it might be totalled). K
