Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

Nope - look at the bottom of that post, lol.

The H2 (BossHoss and family) did awesome, and didn't have any problems that I am aware of.

Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

Man, did we have a good time! Great pics, Invisible J. There are a metric ton more pics to come as people get back home to their computers. I'll be posting some soon.

We had three vehicles needing recovery. The first was towing a camper trailor up a loooong sand slope and was snatched out by yours truely.

Then there was that nasty bit of business out on the river that used to be a trail last night. Picture this: air temp close to 32, close to 9pm, and there I am in my shorts and t-shirt with no shoes on wading out into this huge deep puddle to hook a strap and shackle up to the front recovery point! I had to do a little searching under there to find it, too. Yes I spent a good amount of time huddling next to the fire when we got back to the camping spot. (You owe me beer, and you know who you are! )

Lastly there was a nice wash out we were trucking up this afternoon and missmy60 got hung up on a birm while listing heavily to starboard. I gave Duc Hunter a chance to be the hero this time and he pulled him out with the winch from that beautiful 4Runner of his.

More details to come...

But I just wanted to say thanks to all the fine folks who traveled from near and far to see our little slice of heaven down here. See you all again at another event, hopefully soon.

Nope, no problems here but im sure i have new pinstriping under the clay, sand and mud caked on my rig--itll buff out . While it wasnt necessarily technical(you didint really pick a line, just ran the only one presented) it was more challenging than I thought it would be with fun side slopes, one spot in which a locker really helped(should be a pretty sweet pic of Duc Hunter doing a nice wheel stand here when pics are posted), and some pretty deep water crossings. My buddies that i invited with pavement princesses would probably have been pissed off at me for inviting them on the "bunny slopes"...lol one slip couldve easily wiped the paint off the side of their trucks as margin was slim in some spots.

Apex, you did a great job with the event and thank you for that as we had a great time. Its nice to know that place is so close to home. Bamacruiser that gumbo was very good--if we come up your way well have to stop in. It was great meeting everyone and thanks for the warm welcome and southern hospitality, even if i was the red headed step child .

Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

Just wanted to say Great Job Apex on today's ride. You make for a wonderful tour guide of eglin for being such a great cordinator... Sorry for not bringing my fj but understand fixing the jeep is alot cheaper than the toyo... For the rest of the fj group including Jack Black, it was a pleasure wheeling with you..
Cheers,
yammy1

Re: Eglin Reservation Jan. 19-20

Here are all the pictures I took that came out. These have been cleaned up and resized, but if you want a copy of the raw photo please email me a description of the one(s) you want and I'll shoot them off to you. BTW, I am in the habit of putting the caption for a picture on TOP, so you can read then scroll down to see.

First off, let me tell you that it was POURING rain for at least 14 hours leading into this run. It was still going as we hit the trails and temps were in the upper 30s. So off we went!

The Eglin Reservation and adjacent Blackwater Wildlife Refuge are now that last remaining habitats for the Long Leaf Pine.

Invisible J at an angle.

Meathead coming down with Stringmachine and Duc Hunter looking on.

Next comes Chris2.

Missmy60 and Meathead.

Stringmachine.

Boss Hoss and his H2 were a welcome addition to the pack.

As were Duc Hunter and his beautiful 4Runner.
