Alaska - Anchorage Area

SNOW RUN ANYONE?

I'm in the Anchorage area and have made only one trip so far in my FJ, but a few trips in my other rigs...

Let me know if anyone is interested in getting their FJ off road, I've only found a few limited places to go so far, I may take a short trip this weekend to check out some new tires perform.

I've got a few buddies up here in the area already with FJ's so I think it would be pretty easy to get a decent sized group together for a good run -

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

Next Sunday would be good - I'll see if I can get some other buddies interested - any idea's on where to go? Jim Creek is close, nice and open, but a little boring - I don't mind going there at all, but if you know any better trails or area's I'm up for some adventure.

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

I am not in Anchorage right now so I dont know the condition of the trails but if there is any ice I would stick with Knik and not hit any of the trails that lead into the hills (Permanente, Boulder Creek or Ruby Lake) unless you plan to do a lot of winching and some body damage by sliding off the trails. I talked with a buddy in Wasilla who is a cop and he mentioned that the roads are dry and there hasnt been any real snow accumulation because of the recent temps. When I was up there I would usually hit Knik or the trails on FT Rich during the winter the trails outside of Palmer and Wasilla were usually pretty hairy due to the hilly terrain. I hope you guys have a good trip where ever you decide to go.

I will be retiring from the military in 90 days and will be moving back to Alaska , Big Lake exactly. I hope to see you guys on the trails when I get back up there.

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

I drove up to Canyon road to the Rabbit creek trail head yesterday, the snow is still on top, but it's only a thin layer to the ice below it - I would imagine any of the trails with the weather we've had would be the same wind blown packed snow over ice -

long term forecast is calling for snow later this week so I should be interesting.

I'm all for heading out to the Knik - I'll see how many others I can get on the list.

congrats on the retirement!

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

I'm still interested. I'll check back here for updates.

You wouldn't happen to be on Alaska 4x4 Network - Powered by vBulletin would you?

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

I'm not on that one - I'll check it out.

I'm planning on heading out Sunday morning to Jim Creek, I'll be out there around 10 am I'm thinking - been a long week.

I haven't set up a CB, but I'll have some hand helds with me.

I look for you out there around 10am. No radio here either, just a handheld frs for the time being. I am working on that though.

Re: Alaska - Anchorage Area

sounds good - I'll stay around the first set of sand dunes/hills for a while

still waiting on the snow - we must of had 100 mph winds at our house last night - seems to be odd weather up here for our second winter - it was 43 last night!
