Re: 2007-12-22: Otay Moutain Tour

90% chance I will be there. I am "battling" with miss Komombo over this, she has a case of Visitors Phobia (that's the irrational fear she gets that she will not be prepared enough by the time our Xmas eve/day guests show up). I am maneuveuring my heavy guns into position to be able to join this trip. I think it will happen.

Thanks Ollio for organizing this, it looks like you'll have a fairly large caravan on your hands.

Froggo', you'll miss again? This is flipping unbelievable!

Ya I know. That's a busy week for me. I'm trying to put together a trip somewhere between the 17th-21st. Trying is the key word. I'll post up info when I have it all figured out.

I just found out a ladyfriend of mine who lives down in Eastlake just got herself a Voodoo Blue 07. She will either ride shotgun with me or maybe drive her new rig and break it in. Excellent. How many people are for sure's?

Very nice!! Definitely bring her along with or without her new rig. Ollio should return from Hawai on the 15th (tomorrow), and then he would update this post. It looks like about a dozen or so with you, your lady friend, and I counted in .

Sounds like fun. We will be there.

Ollie, are you aware of the bunkers to the north of the Golden Gate bridge. I was there about 20 eyars ago. Some of them they used train tracks to move the guns. Giant tunnels back in the side of the mountain. Expected the Japanese subs to come into the bay. Very impressive.
It will be great to have you along. I did not know about those bunkers. I'm a jarhead and love military history. These bunkers aren't as extravagant as the bunkers you describe or the Point Loma site. They are a forgotten morsal in history. (old minuteman site) Not many know they exist. Even people who've lived in the area for their whole lives don't know about them.

Hey all! New owner here outta Santee. The wife and I took the plunge and bought the 2008 Black Cherry. I didn't do a whole lot of research before hand but over all very happy with the ride, except the most annoying aspect... Fightin over who is gonna drive there and who is driving back HEHEHE. Let me toss it by the wife and see if she is down for alittle romp. Is this trail ok on the 2 wheel drive version?
You'll do fine... It's mostly a scenic route with a few fire trails. I hope for clear skies. I know... I'll run it in 2-wheel drive with you...

Awsome... We'll break from the run, top off our tanks if we need to, and head for the party (about 40 minutes away).

I'm looking forward to meeting you all.

Just got back in town. Will update the head count tomorrow morning.

FYI... This isn't an FJ only run... I have posted this on ADV4x4 as well. It's open to all makes and models.

Any camping in the area? I might head out Friday night, camp, and then head back Saturday night or camp again and head out early Sunday morning.

Recommendations?

Re: 2007-12-22: Otay Moutain Tour

Anyone know anything about highway 94 and picking it up coming west on 8 from Phoenix? Looks like it might be faster than taking 8 all the way in and then heading south.

The best camping would be the Anza-Borrego area. However, you would still be about two hours away from the Meet & Greet. We are actually meeting in the parking lot of a campground so you might check that out.

Actually there is a more scenic route to the area and IMO it is faster. I would have to dig out my maps and route it for you. I'll see what I can do.
