Re: Prince George, British Columbia (an expedition?)

I live in prince george, but i haven't been on any trails yet cause I haven't had the right tires. I had those bad stock tires and now I have winter tires on. I know their are some good off roading trails around prince george but i just haven't had the time and most of my friends have cars.

Re: Prince George, British Columbia (an expedition?)

I think TCAO and a few of the Forum members from the States will be heading up there and it would be great to join you all. The current thought is May - before the bugs get too out of control and while it's still cooler. Does that timeframe make sense?

It's not too early to plan this trip. If you have any interest in doing something like this as a group. PM me and let's get a list together, chat about the best route and begin the process!

And if we do it, we'll need a sticker for the window for participants. Do you like that one (above)?

Re: Prince George, British Columbia (an expedition?)

By best route, do you mean roads or backroads?

I have just about all of the BC backroads mapbooks and parts of Alberta. I wil help with some planning if you'd like.

On weekend trips we've made it as far as Gold Bridge and Bralorne with very minimal pavement driving. This is near Carpenter Lake, BC. I am sure there are other backroads up and over the mountains from there to Prince George as well. Taking Highway 97 all the way up wouldn't be much fun I don't think...

The sea to sky is rather scenic, but for that leg I would highly recommend the Harrision lake forest service road. This will take you from Harrison, east of Vancouver in the valley, all the way to Pemberton. The Harrison route will be just as scenic, with some great wheeling, and no pavement.

It's doubtful I could get much time off to make it to Prince George with Ouray already planned, but I might be able to get a long weekend and go as far north with you guys as possible...

You won't regret wheeling in BC. Colorado reminded me a lot of home...

Re: Prince George, British Columbia (an expedition?)

Having spent some time running back and forth between Vancouver and Kelowna (Big White and Silver Star ski resorts), I can confirm that this region of Canada is absolutely huge and unbelievably scenic. A writer of a guidebook I have claimed to have driven over 10,000 miles in British Columbia while researching the book.

By the way, I love it so much up there, I'd move if I could. If something like this comes up in late summer/early fall, Woodsman may consider it. My sister has a place at Big White that is very worthy of an overnight stay.
