Recommend any trails in N. Nevada?

I'm planning a 4 day trip in the FJ to northern/central Nevada memorial day weekend and curious if anybody has some recommended trails or places to visit. Plan is to go to Black Rock Desert, climb King Lear Peak (on foot... FJ can't make it), then spend a few days wandering the desert and mountains of Nevada.

There are literally thousands of miles of tracks and rough road in the state but if anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated! Or if there are any other FJs headed out there let me know.

Re: Recommend any trails in N. Nevada?

OK, back from the trip to Nevada. I know why nobody posted any recommendations about trails to take in Nevada: (a) there are so many thousands of trails that it would be impossible to start with a recommendation and (b) there aren't any people in Nevada and nobody realizes how amazing it is.

All I have to say is what a great state. Four days of all-day exploring, 400+ miles covered, and we didn't touch pavement for more than about 90 minutes. There are some very serious tracks that the stock FJ just isn't capable of (sorry, but true) but even more mild/medium difficulty tracks that are incredibly desolate and beutiful. And unlike many regulated and confined OHV parks these trails actually go somewhere. We saw old abandoned mines, wild horses, hot springs, earthquake faults, ghost towns, etc...

are there any 4x4 cluds around you, they would have the heads up about open trails. Do a search, and if it is a jeep club or rover club, contact them anyway, they usually have quite a lot of cross members

That dry lake is the black rock desert near Gerlach. It is where the Burning man festival is every year. There is a lot of cool hot springs around that area too.

Last year, at a Rod Hall Hummer Happening in Elko, NV, we went on some pretty fun trail runs. Nothing too technical, but plenty of great scenery. We had a blast.
