Re: Apres Ouray, Moab 2008

My wife, kid and I would like to join everyone at Moab after the Summit. Is there someone that needs to be PM'd in order to get on the roster? Do I need to make Hotel/Motel RSVPs prior?

Thanks

Re: Apres Ouray, Moab 2008

We will back in Moab from Sun (7-20) til Tues (7-22) heading home sometime Tues afternoon. Got a room at the Red Cliffs Lodge. The place looks awesome and they're running some specials.

It's a great place! Great restaurant too. It's always tempting to sit on the deck and watch the river roll by or hike around the lodge instead of heading offroad. It's about 10 miles up the river from the town. A very quick drive and so worth it for the setting. You won't belive it. Just a couple of miles more up the road is a trail called Onion Creek. Easy but dramatic and beautiful, with many, many small water crossings and links to several other trails including some up into the high alpine for a Ouray like feel.

Enjoy your trip to Moab, it's coming up quick.

You know I'm on board Jim. Only problem is that it's likely to be 110 in the shade this time of year. We should really do it in Spring when it's in the 70s. Also, it gets harder as the season goes by. The Red Rock guys clean it up from the winter damage for the Safari, but it goes downhill quickly through the rest of the year with all the huge tired buggies tackling it.

Ya, for the heat alone, I wouldn't recommend Pritchett for you guys. Any problems could turn into a real problem in that kind of heat (of course that's really pretty true anywhere in Moab that time of year....bring PLENTY of water).

As for it getting harder, I've heard it argued the other way....it's harder around EJS b/c of all the rains over the winter/snow melt. We always go in October, and it doesn't really seem much different to me either way, but there does seem to be a point of contention with some folks.

I'm planning to go in October if anyone's willing to give it a shot. It will not be easy for a fairly built FJC, but it's doable.

Sean
