OC Trail Exploration - Feb 16, 08 - Santiago Peak, Wildomar

Ok, here's the plan...

Meet at Bravo Burgers parking lot at 9 am, and head up to the trails at 9:30.

Probably good to pack a lunch, as well as all the other off-roading essentials.

Bravo Burgers
31722 Rancho Viejo Rd
San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
It's right off Ortega Highway and the 5.

N33' 30.1601 W117' 39.2288

CB - 34

From there, we'll head up to Wildomar and check it out. I've not been there they tell me it's nice... Wildomar OHV Area - Dirtopia, the Off-Road Encyclopedia

It's not very big, so we won't spend too much time there I believe. Mostly looking to find good trails in the area.

Next stop will be at Main Divide on Ortega. There are alot of branches off of this one, but some are closed. Again, the main point is to explore this one, and make it up to Santiago Peak.

Air2Air has posted up some good Google earth files on the open routes up there, and I'll be putting as much of that info into my GPS as I can. Probably printing some as well. Cleveland Nat'l Forest Trails .kmz

Sounds fun. Santiago peak is such a cool place for a night run when it's a bright moon and cloudlevel is below the peaks. Kinda like being on an island in the sky. I want to go but most likely have to work.

Hmmmm i'm not going to Calico. I'm supposed to do some massive yard work n maintnance my pool filter etc.

Some mild wheeling vs. Yard work? And start it all off at a hamburger joint?

Plus I wanted to see Wildomar,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Re: OC Trail Exploration - Feb 16, 08 - Santiago Peak, Wildomar

I've torn around through there many a time, it's GREAT on an off day (no one around on road) and it's like a rally course (you can get a 4 wheel drive sideways.) Wildomar isn't very big..like a few hundred yards maybe. There are are trails running off from center but are really ATV only. TRUST ME you can get in trouble quick there, there are a few "climbs" but are really just walls you'll never make it up. Best to make the turn before hand and head up main divide!
I may try for this one too! I'll keep an eye open on this run, FYI with rain, snow, and run off the trail will be rocky at some points (stock still all good.)

I'm in. I'll be representing all the 2wd brothas out there. So if I get stuck you all have to help get me out. I've been told it is 2wd worthy. I have been up there a little in the FJ, but not to far up due to being alone. I don't have a CB. Maybe after we can hit up Holy Jim. I was in there last weekend and it was a mud pit in a lot of places. My co-worker may want to attend on this also. He has a 4wd ranger. Here is a really great link to the main divide rd.
