Re: Cleghorn March 2nd, sunrise run

everyone, just an update. in case you dont know where bass pro shop is

7777 Victoria Gardens Lane
Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730
Phone: 909-922-5500

GPS Coordinates:
34.1118ºN, 117.5269ºW (WGS84/NAD83)

meet at the main enterence at 6am.

bring food to cook and a mini grill if you have it. we are cooking our favorite for trips like these, spicy sausages. potato guns will also be present for more fun!

btw, I know the weather doesnt look nice right now but from what I have seen the rancho area should be bright and sunny all day tomorrow. I think we might still see small amounts of snow on the trail in some areas.

we will have cb radio goin on tomorrow so if you have one bring it. not sure what channel we will be on yet.

im looking forward to tomorrow, it should be fun since cleghorn has changed so much since I have last been there.

Re: Cleghorn March 2nd, sunrise run

Man I wish I could go and try out my suspension. I work 3rd shift and it is just a little to early for me. Hope we can get more Sunday trips planned soon.

Re: Cleghorn March 2nd, sunrise run

thanks for coming out everyone, I had a lot of fun and I really appreciate everyone helping out with those who got stuck and keeping a positive attitude...I swear next time we wont miss that last turn to get off the trail. still cant believe those last two sections were raited by the trail guide as a 8/10 on a normal day, crazy. the begining of the trail was definetly in good shape and I think most will agree that those extra bits of time spent on the end of the trail were a good learning experience.

Im looking forward to see pictures!

thanks

Re: Cleghorn March 2nd, sunrise run

Eric,

Thanks for organizing this trip. I had a great time and it was a pleasure meeting everyone. I love trips that seem to have an adventure around every corner.

Also, thanks for pushing the early start. I ended up with plenty of time to drink beer and put away the gear.

Now if I can just figure out how to post photos.

Cheers,

Brian

Re: Cleghorn March 2nd, sunrise run

The main trail wasn't torn up too bad. It looks like everything has dried out with only very small patches of mud. We saw a bit of older iced over snow, but not on the trail.

The initial part of the run was easy and smooth sailing. After crossing over onto one of the harder bypasses, I mistakenly stayed on it, lured by the calling of a steep hill. It wasn't too bad, but the bypass didn't meet up with the main road until after a few sharp rocks and a few drops. I went first and ended up with a nice dent on the fender.

We continued and conditions quickly deteriorated from sharp rocks and a few drops, to sandy, larger rocks with rutted out trails. The suzuki samarai make it down with no problems. I was barely able to do it with the help of all the spotters (thanks!). I got high centered on the rear diff, but with everyone's help and a bottlejack, cleared it with no damage. At the bottom of the trail, two guys from a Jeep could not believe that Mason is a 4x2.

The rest of the group backtracked to meet back up with the main road. The last steep hill was very loose, so the 4x2's had some issues gaining enough momentum. Eventually, one had to be towed up a bit.

Everyone made it out ok! That was enough stress for today. Trail carnage includes: my driver's side fender dent; Kevin's 4 Runner running board; and Eric's front bumper (impacted from a pre-runner style launch up the last steep hill back to the main road).
