Nor-cal FJs Lets go some where!

Now that the big weekend is over( I hope everyone had a great time. ) lets go out and hit some trails. I'm open on the 6/24 to go anywhere i.e.... Hollister, Sierras, I'm game for anywhere. If anyone has a favor it place they would like to show off or some where you've wanted to go to, lets hear them.

Re: Nor-cal FJs Lets go some where!

I'd be up for a run to Hollister or any other place...

Here is a little motivation for everyone. This is the view from the top of the upper ranch at Hollister.

Some of us (okay me and bulldog) are going to Hollister on the 10-11. I was thinking if I have the cajones I would do the TLCA Rubicon run the 23-24. If I don't, then I'd go to Hollister with ya.

BTW, it won't be that pretty now

OK, whats the TLCA Rubicon run??? Where's it staging at? Maybe we should all try to do that run!
Still would like to see Hollister, but the Sierra's are beautiful this time of year. Any thoughts?

We had some go up to Strawberry Trail on the 21st, and there was not much snow at the trailhead...but then once on the trail, they ran into 6' snow drifts and very slushy/mucky/muddy/yucky conditions. Apparently it turned into a 'stuck-fest'. They spent more time recovering stuck rigs then clearing the trail of debris....and never got fully thru the trail. The strawberry trail sits just outside the town of Strawberry:
http://www.norcalttora.com/trails/strawberry.php

The Rubicon is not an easy trail by any means. It is rated a 10, whereas Stawberry is a 5. Anyone who attempts the Con should not be angry should body damage occur. Body damage is the least of the worries though. What happens if a CV snaps halfway thru? Better be prepared to wait for someone to go find a spare, unless ya carry one onboard. Personally, my main concern on the FJ is the gas tank....I have dragged thru enough crap in my Taco, and picturing the FJ thru those spots really has me thinking twice about attemping it with TTORA on July 10th-12th.

Re: Nor-cal FJs Lets go some where!

Andy, is there any areas around the CON that the FJ could do? I wasn't planning on doing the CON I was hoping there were lighter trails some were around Loon lake or Icehouse lakes. How far in is Gate keeper from Loon L. is it worth the trip, just to go that far and would the FJ make it?

Re: Nor-cal FJs Lets go some where!

id be more inclined to deal with hollister. dont really want to do anything above a 4 without sliders and some more armor (even 4 at that). wouldnt mind cruisin up to the rubithon thing that the trail team will be at to get my free crap though. wouldnt figure id have to run the whole trail with em.

What, you don't want to do this in your new FJ?

I'm commited on the 24th but will be searching for some Sierra runs. I'm not ready to do body damage but have completely scratched the $h1t out of the paint and popped the silver bumper piece off once already. Skid plates and bumpers are on my short list.

I'd like to find a Sieera drive that ends at a lake and setup camp for a night. I'll be watching the posts to see what plans form...
