Since when did Off Roading in Public become a Private event?
As all of you well know, the FJ Summit in Ouray, CO is coming up close and many people are either on a wait list or could not be registered into the event that they so want to be a part of. There are many of us still seeking answers to what is going on and what can be done. One thing that bothers me is that some feel that they are inclined to be above others such as a reply that I have read that states "The Wedding Crashers mentality....grr.."
Since when did a mutually respectful get together of people with the same love become such a private event in which people feel that they need to build a Hierarchy out of?
Sure, it is understood that the volunteer planners are just forum members interested in a safe and fun event. This involves planning, money, compliance with local authorities requests, volunteers, and sponsors and did i mention money?
The bottom line is, just because you were a trail team member should not mean you should be making quotes that make you feel above others. People are just wanting to find out some information that might not have been posted or personally emailed to them.
I am a Veteran of the Military and a War. You don't see me making quotes saying that American Civilians should fight in a war to remain living in this FREE COUNTRY. I am just an Off-Roading enthusiast and indeed a FJ cruiser lover like everyone else in this forum.
Re: Since when did Off Roading in Public become a Private event?
Don't let a few people get you down my FJ brother, some people just don't think about the effect words can have on others. I'm sure it wasn't a personal slander, more of a blanket one. I understand it sucks to not to be able to attend the summit, but hey, the mountain trails will still be there after the event. It has been my experience that events like these can easily turn into a cluster f#ck if capacities are exceeded, and sometime even if they are not. The people running the show have their hands full as it is, and in this case more is not the merrier. I've been unable to attend either Summit d/t work, but have made it to Moab and Ouray for the last five years, and had an excellent time every time. Last year I was in Ouray and I ran into Arcadiacruiser (a forum member) and some of his buds and ran Imogene together. I'm hopping to run into some Forum members this year, and you are more than welcome to come along! I'll be out in September so PM me if you'd like to run some trails. Hope that helps-at least a little? Tim
Re: Since when did Off Roading in Public become a Private event?
I guess I missed the comment you are referring to but...I know that the FJSummit organizers struggled greatly with capacity and closing registration when they did. It would be great if it was simply a "meet and greet" type of event when everyone who could find their way there would be welcome. As I'm sure you've found out, the logistics and restraints of more than the organizers prevent this.
I can only share that I've missed similar events registration deadlines and it is very disappointing. If you had the time to read through some of the threads leading up to the opening of registration, you will find how many of us were literally sitting by their computers, finger on "the trigger" waiting for the window to open.
The only condolence I can offer is similar to what Timbo offered...know that there are many opportunities to wheel with other FJ owners as well as Trail Team members at various other venues. And, the FJSummit organizers are looking into doing more "intimate" runs (Expeditions) in most every region which will be a great option for the future.
Sorry to hear that it didn't work out this year but I'm sure you will have another opportunity in the future...

This has already been addressed by Bostonian on the other thread, we don't need another thread starting this up again. If you PM'd them to get on the waiting list, your then your good to go. We don't need this type of ranting about the Summit. Thank you, thread closed.
