Re: Trail Teams Invitational May 10/11 Big Bear CA

Fjamming, I agree... The hard part is deciding if I want to build up something older or sell the H3 and get something new to off-road.

Sean's right. Green stickers are prohibited in CA national forests. You'll be very limited as to where you can wheel. Besides that, you will always have to consider where you park your tow rig and whether it'll be safe when you return-and you'll have to ALWAYS return to the tow rig. That's a major bummer if you got friends who will continue on.

Well, judging by the HummerXclub....you could do what everyone else is and get a JK.

I dunno.....it really depends on what you want to spend vs. what kind of fabrication expereince you have. If you are good with design, have a welder, bender, grinders, plasma cutter and lots of appropriate tools already.....then an older Jeep or Toyota is a great place to start and will be much more capable for much less money than building up a newer JK or Rubicon.

With a new JK Rubi....figure you're going to spend at least $40K to get it to where it will run 37's, have armor, a good long travel lift, a winch and good tires/wheels.

It all depends on where you see yourself heading and ultimately what you want out of the vehicle.

Sean

Re: Trail Teams Invitational May 10/11 Big Bear CA

I went through the same thought process when I started modding the FJ. I've contemplated hard about getting and work on an older Toyota PU or maybe something like a Sammy with Toyota axles. I ended up modding because of some very good deals with slightly used parts. I still want something that I can wheel harder and not worry about flopping. Maybe a little ways down the road though.
