Virginia Trail Ride Locations?

Does anybody know of places in Virginia to go on trail rides. I have been off road plenty of times, but it has been for a different purpose than pure fun. I have seen on here that George Washington National Forest has a few trails. I was looking for other places in addition to that.

If it's not a Toyota, I don't want it!

Re: Virginia Trail Ride Locations

The beach does sound like fun, but I am more interested in mud and dirt. I'll still keep that in mind.

Re: Virginia Trail Ride Locations

Check the VA state park list... there's a website for it I had around somewhere.
There are some places out by blacksburg that you can run, and there are a couple places in PA. Tellico isn't that far...

check for a local club... they typically have places they go wheeling regularly.

Re: Virginia Trail Ride Locations

Since Mike dragged this topic out of the dust, I will add my $.02

The GW National Forest is very nice. Do a Google on it...

Re: Virginia Trail Ride Locations

Two recommendations:

1. White Sulfur Springs, WV; Miles and miles of dirt roads and great sightseeing of the back country of West Virginia. Most roads are pretty easy and completely safe for a stock FJ with zero chance of damage unless you start acting crazy. Good place to start is from inside the Greenbrier State Park.

2. Ghent, WV; Hundreds of miles of old logging roads and USFS access and everything from stream crossings to serious obstacles to traverse. It can be a walk in the park or a serious challenge, all depending on which of several dozen routes you take and what line you choose when faced with an obstacle. I did many of them in a Land Rover, but would not attempt most of these without a second vehicle or at least an experienced spottter and a winch.

That link lists Pocomoke State Forest, which is not open to 4x4 passenger vehicles unless I am mistaken. I think it once might have been but not now.
