Mexico Travel? yay or nay

We have a sticky at the beginning of this forum that warns us all of the "perils" of traveling and enjoying Mexico..whether that be Baja or the Mainland
So, my question is why is there not a sticky for most US metropolitan downtown areas?
Would you travel thru the bad parts of LA enroute to Disneyland...thru the bad parts of Miami to ge to the beach

so...who amongst our FJ friends here in the blue room has:
A) actually traveled to Mexico via FJ Cruiser
B) had a great time
C) would do it again
D) had a terrible time and will not EVER go back

just curious

Have driven to Encenada a bunch of times, once to La Bufadora. You do want to be careful and watchful, know where you're going, other than that, buy the insurance and enjoy your time, I did.

Re: Mexico Travel? yay or nay

I go to Tijuana at least 2 times per week in my FJ, no issues what so ever, i have never been pulled over in my FJ, ive had my FJ for 2 and a half years, (you make the count), most of my off roading i do so in Baja, i also greatly enjoy the SCORE series races, ive also gone to other races as well, never had any issues, as a matter of fact there are a whole lot of FJ's down there, you will be surprised.

I really like youre analogy about the bad neighborhoods here in the US. Ive posted the same here before, just because its a different country doesn't mean that you will get killed down there, i was more afraid a year ago when i was in Chicago, and i got lost in a pretty bad neighborhood that any time ive been to TJ.

On the other hand, to be honest with you, there is not a lot to see in Tijuana, but BAJA is the most wonderful place south of the border, it has a lot to offer and its a once in a lifetime experience.

Enjoy!!

Re: Mexico Travel? yay or nay

OMG, that frigging alert, that is the cause that thousand of Mexicans are out of work, people that worked in the tourism business.

And why? just because some "so-called Citizens where murdered down there", this report does not reflect the realty of whats going on down there.

the dynamic of the border cities is very complicated, there are thousands of US citizens that live in the Mexican border cities, but this people have never lived in the US, this people where just born in USA, and then brought back by their parent to live in Mexico (who are Mexicans), when one gets murdered they call it a "US citizen got murdered".

US "tourist" have the same danger that 5 years before no more no less, we all know Mexico is not a fairy land, but tourist are in no way being targeted.

i lived in Tijuana for 16 years, and most of my brothers live down there. this is why i feel comfortable giving my opinion.
