on the newer warn winches, they included a red "safety" thingee that you hook the hook onto, and you use that to guide the cable back onto the drum.

i CANNOT emphasize you using a GREAT set of leather gloves (when using metal rope, vs synth rope). dont cheapen out by using your wife's gardening gloves.

pickup a thick leather padded gloves.
