Talking Hungry Valley Basic 4x4 Off Road Class/Clinic

I am new to wheeling and just registered for a 4x4 Clinic/Class for Hungry Valley (Gorman Area). The cost is $160 for 8 hours and they seem to cover a lot of info (see links below). The next class is Saturday June 9th.

Has anyone ever taken this class or something similar?
How useful/informative was it?
Anyone else in the SoCal area interested in taking the class?

We took this class a few months back, also at Hungry Valley. The instructor (Tom Sevrin) is very knowledgeable and we thought the class was definitely worth the time and money for people new to wheeling. One of the great things about taking the class at Hungry Valley (the class is also offered in Anza Borrego) is they have a 4x4 practice area there with artificial obstacles to practice on. The practice area gives you the chance to begin to explore the limits of your vehicle in a more controlled environment. He'll also take you out on some of the trails there.

Have fun!

That looks pretty cool...I think if I did it, I would do the 2-day course (4x4Training.com - Training Class) that they run mid-week, since I work weekends and I might as well get 2 days of training in if I am going to drive up there...

I may look at doing one in June or July...

I took the 2 day class as well and enjoyed it so much I have taken an advanced class and went on one of the adventures with Tom. As Cnynrat said Tom is very knowledgeable and truly makes the class enjoyable. I highly recommend these classes to anyone getting into offroading.

Some of the Veteran Wheelers in the AZ group are giving some clinics this weekend just outside of Phoenix. It might cost less than signing up for a class in your area... and there's camping, trail-runs, maybe some tasty beverages by the campfire.

Here's the thread if you're interested:

Took the class and highly recommend it...the first half of the first day is in-class instruction and very informative - then behind the wheel. This allows you to understand concepts and principles beforehand and then apply them immediately thereafter...plus you get a nifty book at the end of the class!

Re: Hungry Valley Basic 4x4 Off Road Class/Clinic

I'll second that! For road racing, it isn't so bad with Mid-Ohio, Putnam Park, Autobahn CC, etc in the mid-west...plenty of DE events to choose from. But for off-road, good luck getting anything that organized in our neck of the woods.
