Lightbulb Chris Nelson's Vehicle recovery seminar @ Ouray

For those of you who were at the Summit we had an opportunity to see Chris from the trail team do a seminar on vehicle recover. I missed part of the first one and all of the second one due to being out on the trail. So I posed the question to him if he would put on video. I vaguely remember him saying something along the lines of if there was enough interest he would consider it. So here is the thread to see if we can get him to put his seminar on video!!! And for those of you that have not had an opportunity to see Chris in action, he is a really great trainer. If you are new to driving off road this seminar is a MUST see for the basics of safe vehicle recovery.

Items covered at his seminar:

A. High lift jack
I. proper use and safety
II. Lift at the tires
III. Lift from the slider
IV. Use as a winch
V. Additional accessories and their use

B. Proper Winch technique
I. General Winch use and safety
II. Use of a tree strap and winch technique
III. Hand signals
IV. Multi-line and multi-anchor
V. Yes, more safety hints

C. Safe use of the snatch strap
I. Snatch strap vs. Tow strap (dynamic vs. Static pull)
II. Safety in the use of equipment
III. Understanding loads and how to pick out the correctly rated equipment for the FJ.
IV. Proper technique for use of the strap
V. And yes more safety

If there was anything I forgot let me know. The seminar was great and everyone learned something. If you think you would be interested in learning from the best help me pester (er persuade) Chris into putting this seminar on film.

I caught the tail end of both his seminars were he was reeling the winch back in and in that short time learned some new stuff, I would be interested.

That is just not right......... One of the first things that I did was taught my wife how to use 4wd. Winters here near the lakes can really be snowy.

I'm in the same boat and now I really want to catch the entire seminar with out having to travel across country again. We need more people to vote on this so I can properly beg Chris to put the next one on film for us.

Come on people, if you are new to going off road or have friends that are you should be voting already. Keep the votes rolling in!!! I know I have gained some serious benefit from the little bit I caught during the summit.

Re: Chris Nelson's Vehicle recovery seminar @ Ouray

I voted absolutely.

And I think Toyota should produce it and it should come w/ the purchase of every 4WD FJC on that "interactive CD-ROM" they package in the quick reference guide!

Seriously, I'm really really interested in this information and Chris' presentation of it.
