Weapon for Air2air poll

Help me decide if I should get a weapon, what kind, or not at all.

1. I make 2-3 day trips waaay out on the trails with the wife and my 8 and 6 year-olds.
2. I have limited gun experience and no training.
3. I like to go exploring without other wheelers.
4. We do trails in the day but go into town to spend the night.
5. We are not ass-kicker types, and probably present an easy target.
6. I prefer remote trails and avoid OHV areas. Ghost towns, mines etc.

I thank you guys for your opinions on the other thread, and am trying to see how the votes stack up...

Get to know your weapon. Shoot often and get training for you and your family.

And join the NRA.

i would by a shotgun 12 ga. marine type (stainless steel) Remington 870...or Winchester defender 12 ga. marine...learn to shoot it...let your family learn to shoot it ...sign up for hunter saftey/education courses....learn with light loads..train/practice...and above all...safety first and last...put it in the FJ and you are ready to face about anything.... you can shoot light loads for practice and when things get ugly load up with 00 buck shot or slugs....RR

that's the same thing i told him to do in the other thread.

a 1911 semi or a revolver isn't a bad second choice.

General public cant get a CW permit in OC, Berdo and LA county unless you transfer millions in diamonds or something crazy, its next to impossible. Thank you Liberals. Oh the bad guys dont care, they still carry guns.

Best thing about a pump shot gun is no matter what languages you speak, or cant speak, everyone know what the sound of the pump engaging is.

Re: Weapon for Air2air poll

last time i checked you could still carry/transport a firearm in a vehicle as long as it was unloaded...ammo stored separate...he is wanting for something out on the trail...he could carry this legal/transported as long as the action is racked back/empty of shells properly stored the back out of reach in a gun case...you have the right to bear arms...as long as you abide by the rules....RR

Thats correct but wont help you if someone tries to carjack you. They have had about 40-50 restaurant robberies here in my area over the last year or so. There M.O. is, 3-4 people not only rob everything from the restaurant but rob all the patrons for personal items, if a few were locked and loaded, those guys wouldnt be up to 50 and still on the loose. anyways...

air one more ider get a .22 long rifle and teach the kids that the gun is not a toy but not something to fear. A .22 has a small kick and is a good learners gun. Turners outdoors, is a good gun store for advice in this aera and they have classes. Even experts should take a gun control class. Ive been shooting since 5 years old and took a class and learned a lot. The NRA offers a gun safety book for kids called "eddie the eagle" NRA
