umm, ok. dont worry about the slack, just pin it and go. that was the dumbest thing i have seen in a long time. that wasnt an accident, it was stupidity.
I also noticed that the slack was not taken out before trying recovery. I wasn't there to see the line that may have been used.

Yes it was stupidity that caused this incident. Who would confuse an FJ with a heep????

Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

They were trying to do a snatch extraction...by pulling that hard...I would never my self but I've seen people do this in mud and sand... Like uphill said always put a heavy or wet blanket on the strap or winch line before doing anything like this.

Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

warn makes that snatch strap that you are supposed to have a little slack in and then you pull and it stretches and then recoils to offer more pulling power... would have been nice to have in this situation. It is very helpful when the pulling truck has limited traction as well.

Im guessing that this is not one of them obviously, and second, how do you know it had hooks on the end and not just broke a normal strap?

Ooooooo, that had to smart ! Learned a long time ago when pulling trees over to weight the line. Better to do so than to crack thy head.
