Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

OUCH, I've seen photos and read stuff on people standing too close to a piece of heavy equipment (ie: excavator or dozer) pulling heavy loads out of the mud and such and the winch/cable line snaping, nearing cutting someone too close in half. Rule of thumb I thought was stand clear 2x the tow line lenght away when tugging out.

Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

Folks, if it has hooks on the ends it is NOT a snatch strap and should NEVER be used as one. Hooked straps are for towing ONLY. Here endeth the lesson.

Holy smokes!

Unfortunately it takes videos like this to hammer safety into people's heads.

Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

(a) They weren't using a tow strap

(b) They weren't using synthetic winch line (so much safer than steel cable)

(c) They didn't have a wet (giving weight to) blanket on the strap to keep it down if it did break

I just hope that the cameraman is ok.

Using a winch line to tow instead of a strap is asking for trouble.

Re: Mud Strap Snaps And Takes Out Cameraman

Anyone else notice it says "FJ" in duck tape on the back of the stuck rig?
