NEW Bill Burke training class for FJCruiserForums! Feb 23-24, 2008

Hello fellow FJ'ers! I have just made arrangements with 4-Wheeling America's Bill Burke to conduct a class in the Florence Junction area of Arizona the weekend of February 23 & 24th. This is just a week and a half away!

Course fee: $465/vehicle, 1-2 people per vehicle.

**This is the only place this class will be advertised. Please either PM me to get instructions on how to sign up or contact 4 Wheeling America directly. 4-Wheeling America, 4x4 driving school, 4WD, Off-Road Driving--Industrial, Government, Receational, Moab & Colorado adventure trips

A permit is required and is available in Phoenix.Arizona State Land Department | Programs | Natural Resources | Recreational Permitting and Off-Highway Vehicle
Phoenix Office, 616 West Adams, Phoenix, AZ 85007.
(602) 364-2753

This will be for all vehicles provided they are equipped as per Bill's specifications listed here:
"Vehicle Requirements Regular Course: Frame-mounted tow points, CB (handheld okay), no air dams, good spare tire."

Only 7 spots remain open at this time. Please PM me if you are interested.

If any of you have read Komombo's post about his class experience, you know how valuable this knowledge can be.
On The Road With Bill Burke_Jan08

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
General description of On the Road...

These 2-day training events are geared toward beginner to moderate skill levels,
but experienced skill levels will also learn more than they thought possible as
well as increase awareness. Emphasis is on safety. Courses include vehicle
preparation, negotiating the terrain, picking a proper line, map and compass,
recovery techniques using Hi-Lift jack, winch, and other tools, vehicle
preparation and back country awareness. Included is both theory and
hands-on driving techniques. Many handouts are included.

Courses are extremely comprehensive learning environments, with hands-on
demonstrations and opportunities taking place on the trails. Tips and tricks for
negotiating the terrain will be blended with discussions, challenges and
obstacles to teach owners about their vehicle's capabilities.

You will learn:
●how to be more prepared (vehicle/personal) when going on the trail
●how to negotiate the rough terrain
●how to do a quick field fix when something on your truck breaks
●how to pick a proper line and how to spot another driver
●basic and advanced recovery techniques
●suggestions for modifying your truck and much, much more.

Instruction by Bill Burke will get you there and back safely, answer your 4-wheeling
questions, show you the correct way to drive and recover using environmentally-
friendly procedures, and give you historical anecdotes of the area.

Please contact me immediately for consideration.

Terry (and everyone),

If you contact them directly, I'm sure she'll be happy to find a class date for you! They travel the U.S. extensively.
The class size is 8 trucks or they also do individual training. Get it going!!

I'm not sure. You could call them and ask. It does seem funny. Maybe it's not your roof rack air dam but the one below the front bumper?

I read it as being a front air dam below the bumper.

Re: NEW Bill Burke training class for FJCruiserForums! Feb 23-24, 2008

Just FYI, the trails are actually on BLM land and therefore do not require a permit. In order to access the trails, you have to cross State Trust Land. A permit is required in this area ($20 per year per family) only if you stop.

My guess would be that Mr. Burke is planning on holding meetings in State Trust Land areas (or airing down, etc) so you would be wise to follow the advice of the OP. I was merely mentioning it to those who may be visiting or live in this area and don't currently have the permit.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing to have as it makes life more convenient, but it isn't an absolute necessity to run the trails in the Florence Junction area.

HTH,
Sean

Sean,

This requirement is probably due to the fact that Bill is getting a fee for the class. BLM land is usually open to the public, yes, you are correct on that.

Sorry for mudding the water with my comments. Not my intent. Just trying to let yocals and visitors know they can use the area for free if they are so inclined.
