Crossing Rivers and Streams

Just wondering how water tight the doors are on the FJ for any of you who have submerged it up past the doors when fording rivers and streams?? Any leaks at all?

Nothing comes inside. The doors will fill up with water, though. I've been there. There are three holes in the bottom of the door that allow it to drain.

Re: Crossing Rivers and Streams

Maybe some of you experienced off road guys could elaborate on stream crossings. How do you gauge suitability, depth, bottom integrity, rocks approach etc. All water crossings involve some risk, how do you best guage this and make good decisions. Also how do you cross and leave minimal damage to streams.

Cold you please give some advice to the inexperienced.

Amen! The only way... to many surprises out of you sight underwater. Remember you only have about 27" so do not forget about the wake. when I was younger (many years ago) I bent a rod. Can not compress water.

I cannot say enough about Toyota's "questionable" claim of 27" of water fording capability. I would stick to 20" and below to be safe. Get the breather tube extension mod ASAP if you plan on doing a lot of crossings.

Re: Crossing Rivers and Streams

Fording is darn good way to get stuck and cause all kinds of damage to your vehicle.

Don't try it unless at least one other 4x4 is in your convoy and at the ready with appropriate length tow straps.
