How many trucks do you think they just destroy per commercial shoot? I saw a new Ford truck ad that looked like it would have liquified the stunt driver it was so rough. Looked like ol'Mikey Thompson back in the day lol.
Yeah, just saw a Ford ad of some yahoo towing a tree out of the road for his ex girlfriend with an F-150.
I've towed trees after Katrina.
There is no way an F-150 can jerk such a friggin large tree off of a wet road, but I've seen about a quarter inch of melted tire on the asphalt where they've tried.

Sounds like someone is learning to offroad watching truck commercials on tv. Washboard and potholes are unpredictable. If you don't mind expensive lessons or looking at your FJ in a ditch then the faster the better lol.
Hey TEJ, just a lighthearted way to point out to a newcomer, JFD in this case, that you shouldn't bomb around like the truck commercials. So many folks get new trucks and think they should really be able to take that kind of abuse. Shame to hurt a new FJ.
Washbords will turn your FJ into a rattle trap, I take them a little slow depending on bad they are. Keep your tires out of the ruts on rutted roads, a good friend of mine got caught up in rut on an otherwise smooth dirt road in Moab, and dang near flipped her TJ. Scared the sh*t out of all of us. Mud puddles are fun, but can mask potentially bad situations. I avoid mud as much as possible, it's pita to clean, and can cause damage to brakes.
I like the Toyota ad where they drive a 4Runner with low profile tires down a mountain at speeds that would quickly roll the vehicle or wrap it around a boulder/tree.
Or both.
I thought they just speed up the commericials to make it look cool...
They never show them land in the commercials.
On the other hand I got nothin against truck commercials, my ex wife was an extra on one for Chevy, they made 3 or 4 commercials out of a one day shoot, we got royalty checks for a year after that...not bad work if you can get it!
jfd, if it makes you feel any better, in my tundra I ran over a tire with a rim on it sitting in the middle of the carpool lane head on (was stuck between center divider and 18 wheeler and couldnt avoid hitting it) and blew both my passenger side tires but suffered no suspension damage of any sort. Was doing around 75 mph & didnt lose control at all. Truck just leaned to the right & kept going straight. Just had to get new tires & my front end realigned & was good as new again!
Not that you should bomb over any obstacles at full speed, but Im gonna say its probably pretty resilient to potholes and stuff.

Depends on the F150. I ripped one out of the ground still attached to roots using nothing more than granny 1st, on an 82 F150 with a 4.9ltr inline six. Thing had pistons the size of buckets and a 1 bbl carb, but the torque at low-end was STAGGERING to say the least. Couldn't pass a gas station, and it wasn't gonna win any races, but it would out tow trucks twice it's size. Pulled a trailer with a 20,000lb tractor on it without any issue. Pretty sure that tree didn't way 20,000 lbs. Wet road... slight problem, but not if you were paying attention. The F150's are pretty damn rugged. But, it's a Ford so at 100K, expect problems and prepare the bank account cuz, more are comin'. My 82 was a decent truck. 2 engines, 3 clutches - over 350,000 miles. Not bad for domestic.
I kind of miss it.
Wait, what am I saying? No I don't.
To the original post, I think the boys covered it pretty well. If YOU are worried you're gonna break something, slow down. It's kind of like taking a test. If you think the answer is right, it probably is. You won't have a problem till you second guess yourself and hit something too hard, break something, and end up in a ditch - then you'll know first hand you should have listened to your gut and slowed down.
