2013 Electric brake controller install

Just acquired a 2013 Trail Teams FJ. I intend to use it for off-road but also to replace my 1992 Ford F-250 diesel for towing a tandem axle flatbed car hauler and my Spec Miata race car. The trailer weights about 1,500 lbs and the Miata is 2,100 lbs, so 3,600 shouldn’t be too much of a strain on the FJ. Don’t expect it to compare to the F-250 for towing but should work. I am in the process of installing an electric brake controller and was wondering if there is anything I need to be aware of when it comes to connecting into the brake circuit? I understand from another post that the brake circuit is the green with yellow stripe wire at the switch but are there any issues with just tapping into it? Don’t want to screw up the ABS. Appreciate any input.

Just finished my install a week ago. No issues here. Did you get the whole 7 way adapter kit along with it?

Here is a thread with how I did mine.

Post brake controller location pics!!

Re: 2013 Electric brake controller install

I see brake wire is going to be real fun to get to. Where they put that cable tie is going to make it real interesting. I got both the P2 and the 7-pin adaptor from eTrailer and so far it's been a relatively easy install. Going to mount the controller on the fuse cover. Ordered a new one from Toyota so I can remove the controller when not in use. Thanks for the info.

I got the right size wire taps (purple ones) for the brake wire at Radio Shack, if you can't find them anywhere else.

Re: 2013 Electric brake controller install

Thanks, I was thinking the ones that came with the controller looked big.
