Re: The "No Cut" A-TRAC + RR DIFF Hack.

For those of you who have done the mod, have you used it in a situation that you feel you would not have been able to maneuver through without the mod? I am interested in doing it, but don't know if it is worth it. I know it only takes a couple hours max, and hardly any expense, but I havn't navigated anything that the a-trac alone couldn't handle. With that said, I still want toyota to take care of the problem, it is a feature we should all have. I called Toyota and they said they were aware of it, but they're not doing anything about it at this time. I think that if enough people call and complain, the better chance we have to get it done right. Here is the number to call.

For all of you who helped to make this mod work, YOU ARE AWESOME! You have invested a lot of time and effort just to help other people out with this.

It only comes into play on some of the much harder stuff.. 80% of people may never need it because they will not attempt or encounter something that will need that extra pull.

I have very good proof it works wonders though. I was able to climb a hill, with stock tires, that despite several attempts by two trail team drivers with aftermarket tires but without the modification could not.

Re: The "No Cut" A-TRAC + RR DIFF Hack.

I still have not done this mod, either the underhood or in the cab.
I have read in a few threads where members are having the dash light up now after doing the hack awhile back.
Sounds like the ECU is not liking the mod?

Still holding out for Toyota to see what they are going to do.
Perhaps they will step up to the plate and give us a fix.

Huh.. that's odd..I havn't seen those posts.. I've had the hack the longest time wise, and so far nothing has happend to mine.. probably put about 6000-7000 miles on it since then.. I wonder if it's some weird milage based thing? Or if something else is going on like the wire coming lose??

The ECU can't tell the difference between hacked and un-hacked, so I really doubt that there would be a problem in that regard. The hack just provides a steady state signal to the ECU that tells it : "Hey Mr. ECU, the rear diff is not locked", which is the same signal the ECU gets in a non-hacked truck 99.999% of the time.

Re: The "No Cut" A-TRAC + RR DIFF Hack.

I was in a muddy ravine, dropped my rear axle into a ditch and could not pull out with the rear locked and 1 front spinning in the mud. Another angled muddy ditch was in front and would require careful skirting, so a momentum assault was a poor option. This mod would have likely gotten me out on this situation-instead, it became a winching affair. I plan this hack but agree that it will be a rare occasion when I really need it

Thanks Tankota, thats good info. I really, really want to do this mod, but I am so afraid that I am going end up damaging the ECU either by a mistake I make or from finding out later that this does damage to it. Maybe overly paranoid, so i'm not sure what to do. I know I want the mod, thats for sure.

Re: The "No Cut" A-TRAC + RR DIFF Hack.

FAQ UPDATE 2/14/2007

"I accidentally connected the +12v wire to the wrong side of the circuit. Now my truck will not start"

Correct the hack, and check the 10A IGN fuse in the drivers side fuse panel. If blown (it is), replace it.
