Trac off switch. IF you want one that fits a regular blank . buy one from a
2wd 4runner and it pops into a regular spot and fits like the tacoma.

Re: Install of VSC cancel switch

Tried the 84988-35050 2WD FJ traction switch, it doesnt work on the 4WD computer EVEN THOUGH THE WIRING IS ALREADY THERE! The plug is attached to the inside of the upper left block off just above the center console.

The "Traction Off" switch from a Sienna will fit too, but I don't know what color it shines yet. You'll have to trim off the side-ribs like on the tacoma foglight switches.

Oh, I forgot:

The switch is momentary, it doesn't stay on. It's just there to send a signal to the computer, which turns it off. I think I'm going to run a snap-acting relay to control the trac-off, but then i'm not sure how to turn it back on. I guess another switch, but I don't want to take up the dashspace with yet another switch. I already have the center stack full, just have the two behind the steering wheel to fill up yet. This will be one of them, and rocklights will be the other.

It is in post #48 of this same thread, but here it again...

traction control disable?

I tried to find the info on which wire again, in the threads with the search function, but to no avail. I probably made a hard copy (I prefer real paper vs. having to scroll to see everything), so it is probably at home. I might be able to dig it out tonight and put it up tonight or, at the latest, tomorrow night. I just used an A-TRAC switch, put a label "VSC" on it and leave it on, unless it's "fun time"
Thanks dbbd1 it works great. Gave it a good test on some gravel with it on and off. What a differance. I like the fact that you can turn it on or off at any time. No engine shut down to rest lights.

Re: Install of VSC cancel switch

I know this is a pretty old thread but............for those that have fear about doing this simple mod................just Don't Do It!

For those of us that have been on a mild dirt trail in 2wd & actually want to "punch it", "get on it", even if just for a few seconds etc etc etc. And not be dissapointed by having the VSC engage and Not having to shift into any form of 4 wheel drive. This is a great mod PERIOD!

Have a little fun! If you fear for your safety JUST DON"T DO IT! The whole idea is that you can engage it when you want & return it back to the stock factory operation for your daily driving needs. IMHO.

Re: Install of VSC cancel switch

Just did mine with a nice low profile rocker switch since the factory ones work off of the computer, works perfectly as advertised. I gave it a little punch in some water & was facing the opposite direction in a second. Cant wait to try it on sand hills!
