The Pony Express Trail

Went on a trail run a couple weeks ago with Wasatch Cruisers along the Pony Express Trail that runs through Utah. We did the stretch from 5-Mile Pass to the Nevada border, +/- 100 miles on dirt(snow covered). Nothing challenging "wheeling" wise, except for when you catch a snow drift @ 40 mph and gets your rear end a little squirrelly.

It was rather cold(-5 to start the day) and hazy at times...but the Sun eventually came out and at times it felt warm enough to roll the window down...which only lasted a few seconds with the cold air rushing in.

It was nice driving out there with barely any dust being kicked up, just snow.

Got to Simpson Springs...found some cool frosted over trees that were just starting to melt from the days Sun...

In this pic you can kinda see some of the ice crystals in the air...in person it was a cool "holographic" effect going on with the crystals floating in the air...

Some sections along the way looked like we could have been on another planet...

Up and over the pass...

Lunch at Fish Springs...and a random tree branch pic...

...and the drive home in the fog along I-80...

Very fun trip out in the West Desert of Utah. It was cold, but the Sun was shining, the air was clean, and was with a great group of people.

Fly Jester,
Would you mind spilling the beans on your camera work? Lenses, etc.
Great shots. Great trail too -- that one is on my must-do list.

Sure thing I don't mind spilling the beans at all.....Nothing special used really....and I mean that. Most pics were taken with a Sony DSC-N1 Cyber-shot @ 8.1 Megapix, which was a good amount of mega-pixs when I bought it in 2005. The lenses are just built in auto-focus. It has taken great pics over the years, but the lens focus motor seems to be shorting out lately and it might be time for a new camera.

See nothing fancy, just a pocket type AF camera.

...and a couple of the pics were taken with my crappy ass Sony Ericsson phone.

Not a lot done in post either, just a simple auto correction via Picasa and sometimes some cropping other than that they look exactly as I took them.

*I did get my Minor in Photography though, so I do know a few things about what to look for in a shot. Since I learned about photography from shooting on film where you tried to make each shot count, and I guess that has carried over to the digital side.
