So are the long tube headers weld on? sorry if I missed that somewhere
Negative.
Quick explanation for those looking (without getting into the merits of wanted/unwanted back pressure):

Firstly, your exhaust goes like this:
Exhaust manifold
first set of cats
02 sensors
second set of cats
muffler

Short tube headers:
These are not direct bolt on. Your stock OEM exhaust manifold have the first set of cats attached to them. You can either cut off the cats from the stock manifolds and have them welded onto the new JBA shorties, or purchase aftermarket cats and have those welded on. Then you can bolt up the shorties.

Pros: You will still pass smog checks, if you have them. No engine codes from the 02 sensors.
Cons: Welding is required. More vehicle down time (read: install price).

Long tube headers:
These are a direct bolt in. You are removing the first set of cats. The 02 sensors now see a much different gas than they would if the cats were there so your 02 sensors will give you an error code. You will not pass any vehicle inspection with an 02 sensors code. Also the truck will run like doo doo. So you will need to buy an 02 sensor simulator, URD sells one. This tricks the computer into thinking the 02 sensors are reading correctly. However, you MAY fail a smog inspection if your state does a tailpipe sniff test.

Pros: Easier install, direct bolt on. More freely flowing exhaust due to removing the cats(has its pluses and minuses).

Cons: MAY fail exhaust sniff test at inspection, need to buy 02 simulator in order for engine to run properly.

I think that covers most of it, with some minor details. I'll copy this over to Joels other thread for the headers so others can see it.

One draw back on the shorties. If your cats fail and they will you have no warranty from Toyota on them. That comes from some one that had it happen to them. They refused to replace the cats due to modification. They were not able to bolt the cats up, nor would the give them to me to have them welded on. This went through Toyota in Los Angeles. Not a happy camper. You can not replace with out of state cats either, they have to have the California stamp on them to pass smog. I have a nite mare coming in November for sure. You are looking at just under 4500 for them to replace the cats., as in Arizona you can buy them for 200 bucks. Great state we live in. Also you can not go to a junk yard as they are ordered to crush them, no salvage sale of them.

Also last year when I was going through all of this, JBA headers were not legal in California even though it said it on the header. No number on the header means it is not legal.

Catalytic converters, particularly the ones that are used in CA vehicles have a high amount of Platinum in them. One reason they are stolen.
I had 3 stolen off a couple cars when I was at school at Long Beach State.
1 was stolen when I was living at the dorms.

Toyota should have been better about helping you!

I'm glad to hear JBA headers are now 50 State legal as of today.
