Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Cruiser Larry,
you seem to be totally in the know.
Question, Ome 2" lift and BFG 280/70R/17. How is hwy performance, noise, stability? I will go off road, Tellico NC, but also will drive FJC home and use a lot on road.
Thanks

btw- Discount Tires gave me $200 credit for the 5 OEM Dunlops
toward 5 BFG A/Ts @ $200 each. So, i was outta there for
$800 plus m&b of $11 X 5. Seemed fair enough. Crusty
America's Tire would only give me $15 each for the stock tires, but they sold me the BFG A/T's (285/75-17) for $170 each.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Does anyone have any pics of the Bridgestone Revo's in a 285/70-17?

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Can anyone confirm that the Bridgestone Revo's in the P265 and P285 weigh the same?

According to their site thay are both 43 pounds.

P265/70R17 113S S OWL 7.0-9.0 (8.0) 31.7 10.6 7.8 13/32 657 43 50000
P285/70R17 117T T OWL 7.5-9.5 (8.5) 32.8 11.5 8.4 11/32 635 43 50000

From what I gather here they will go on the stock 17" alloys no problem and with only a potential for rubbing when the vehicle is turned to its limits. Yes?

I am considering these vs Nitto Terra Grappler in the 265 and 285 and the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor's in 275.

Can anyone say whether there are any problems with going with the LT285/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on the stock alloys? I know they are a heavier load rating and road ride quality (softness) will suffer a bit...

Thanks

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Well I'm going to go with 265 or 275's as I don't want to worry about voiding my warranty with a lift or anything. More than likely I'll be going with these Hankooks I posted about. Wish there was some more feedback but seem pretty good and available in OEM size.

Thread about them - Tires - Hankook Dynapro MT RT03

So did a search and didn't find any info on these Hankooks. Seeing I'm currently racing my Subbie on Hankooks I took a look at these. Actually I like the looks of the Kumhos but they don't come in 17's. The Hankooks come in a 265/70-17

http://www.hankooktireusa.com/produc..._ID=81&CatID=7

Dynapro MT RT03

* Mud Terrain
* Q-Rated
* Serrated Black Letters

The Dynapro MT RT03 is a rugged tire designed for "true off-road drivers." The "V" shaped tread blocks are tapered for better grip in mud or sand and you should see them perform in snow. There are "ejectors" built into the tread grooves to prevent stones from penetrating. Specifically designed shoulders keep dirt from building up and to help prevent damage from impacts.

Noticed this on a Dodge Diesel truck forum:

Alot of the ranchers and farmers around here use Hankooks. @wd duallys usually run the Hankooks on rear and michelins on front. Tire shop told me that Hankook has just as good of warranty as the bigger name brands. I'm gonna put a set on the rear of my truck once I get the $$$. 235-85-16's run $120 something each down here.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Let us know how you like them. I was curious about them myself although I've always been happy with my BFGs. I think you are wise to stick with near stock size for now. I did the same although I don't think I was able to convince anyone else of my reasoning for doing so. I think the problems with the 285s and larger are just now begining to show.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Well I don't think I really need the extra size now...more of just needed a more aggressive pattern for the off road conditions I'm encountering here in Texas. Sand, mud, clay, etc...

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Ah yes, and I am going to be doing mostly on-road in my FJ, so I have AT on the brain. I've seen the future for me and there are a lot of winter conditions 2-3 years from now for me.

Considering what you've said it seems the Revo's or the Nitto's in the 265 or the Goodyear's in the 275 would be the right choice for me. I would like to have a little bigger tire if possible.

Would going with the 275 present a warranty issue? And, did you mean the 285's should present a warranty issue base on the intallation/use of a lift?

What if you JUST throw 285's on the FJ - no lift? I have heard some people are not seeing rubbing issues, mainly because they are not putting them in situations where the need to turn to the vehicle's limits or fully articulate the suspension...

Thanks

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

I may do rubber before a lift and attempt the 285's. It's only an inch of difference and I'm not really into taking trails hard enough to require stretching the flex of my truck to the limits. Stock, it really has quite a bit of flex.

Not even flexed out. I can't see an inch in real diameter rubbing even running up a 2.5' mound of dirt like this one with the wheels turned.

It looks like, with the plastic fender flares on the FJ - you guys should have even more space to play with. Try it out and see. You never know if you don't try.
