Well, got the GYSA 285's put on yesterday. Took some pics of fitment in my "areas of concern":
I was attempting to use something that I thought people would recognize and stay in place while I took the pic, the Sharpie. It represents a space that is about 3/8th's of an inch. No problem with the clearances on the rear door spare mount either.
I've haven't had a chance to take a picture of it yet, but I did throw the splash guards back on last night when I got home. The rubbery plastic that covers that area is about 1/16th of an inch thick. Add to that a little 1/16th of an inch air spacing between the cover and the frame/body mount area and you lose a total of about 1/8th of an inch in clearance, leaving me between 3/8th's and 1/4 inch of clearance from the tire tread to the plastic splash guard cover.
I decided if they *do* rub in that location for some reason, I would rather rub the splash guard cover than have road debris coming up from the road etching it's way into the plastics and paint behind the wheel. I can't imagine where else this tire might rub in street use.
As far as ride... the FJ seem more "trucky" getting away from the "C" load rating stock Dueler's and moving to a "D" load rating with a higher PSI. It also seems more solid in its footing. I can hear a bit more tire noise over the stock Dueler's too, but moving to an AT tire, that was my expectation.
The FJ definitely looks better, more rugged and complete. These tires are essentially 1 inch taller and 1 inch wider than the stock size. I will post more pics when daylight returns and I can snap a few more.
If you are thinking about these, I say go for it.
