In my experience, on snow and ice, narrow is always best. Also makes you look dorky like you live in the woods and come out only at maple syrup time.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Yeah, narrow is good in my experience, also. I can't get a taller, narrower BFG AT 17, unfortunately.

Anybody got a good recommendation for a 32 or 33" narrow tire that is similiar in performance to BFG AT? Want to be able to drive it on the road alot without too much noise and with decent handling. And need to handle deep snow on logging roads/ no roads. Like the BFG AT, but would like a little bigger than stock. And don't want the 285/70/17, too wide. Would like stock width and 33"

Oh, and great durability, cheap price, and Kirsta Allen for just one night!

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

I posted this in another thread as well. Sorry if it's repeated.

I talked with the guys at TLC in So Cal the other day. These are the guys that built the VooDoo Blue SEMA truck with the front ARB bumper. They said you will need a 2" lift in order to fit 285/75R16 on the FJ. The 285 is a 32.8" tire which in theory would mean that a 33" tire will not fit w/o a lift.

I pickup my FJ next week and plan on installing the OME 2" lift and 285's, but don't really want to be first. Hopefully we will have a guinea pig report back to us soon.

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Hi,

I took delivery this morning and had BFG AT 285/70 17 installed an hour later. They fit, even on the rear door! It is very tight and full lock under compression may rub against the plastic inner fender flange (there is metal behind it). I will trail test it in the next few weeks and decide if it needs a lift....max 1" if at all.

The stock tires made the FJ drive like our Touareg, with the BFG's it feels like it should... a little firm, a little wiggly, but nothing scary. FJ far exceeds my expectations.

Best,
Paul

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

I'm going to try a set of copper s/t 285's on next week.I'll have them put it on the hoist and see if we can turn the wheel and work the front suspension through it's range of motion to see if they rub.
Does toyota offer a stiffer factory spring that might give an 1"-1 1/2" of lift??

thanks

Re: will 285/70-17 tires fit?

Can you post pics with the new tires on? Side by side shots of stock versus the new tires would be awesome. Thanks.
